My very very favorite restaurant in Durham, which happens to be a taqueria, was just shuttered & chained by the City for failure to pay back taxes to the tune of $185,000. Auction likely. I cannot express the extent of my grief. Also Duke Energy just WILDLY overpruned many of the trees in our neighborhood because they are cheapass m*fuckers. Coal ash dumping m*fuckers.

@Fleep - True that. Nonetheless the Massacre of the Trees is astonishing. All over local news, may nake national.

In other news, my famous neighbor who is co-owner of a highly esteemed WFMU - friendly independent record label has two extra TONS of wood chips in her yard availailable for freecycling.

And! Someone hacked my Twitter account 4 days and *only* EFD thought to let me know. Apparently I've been espousing the virtues of some Dr. Oz -approved diet aid.

I'm doing a short course with an American professor as a special topic on my graduate stuff. She teaches at the University of Alabama and studies how Brazil was thought in the nineteenth-century US, very interesting. Sadly she doesn't knows WFMU...
Avatar 8:37pm

@Gary - Here's a real tip. If one is stupid enough to drink red wine when one is housesitting, and is also clumsy enough to spill red wine on white linen, one's ass is totally saved by the miracle mix of Dawn®detergent and hydrogen peroxide. A miracle, I tell you. Seriously! Entire stain vanished completely & instantaneously - poof. Where has this piece of knowledge been for my entire adult life? Best use of Google ever.

@doca - print out and save the wine stain tip I offered Gary!
Seriously, I used to work at a fairly high-end restaurant where we were taught to use club soda for any embarrassing drips - frankly, not all that effective. Dawn/peroxide crazy effective. I don't personally use Dawn at home because I eschew P&G (and environmentally unsound sudsing agents & potential carcinogens) but I am going to suck up & buy a small bottle for stain use only.

Gary, ice it! Take some aspirin. Heat will just keep the back area inflamed. A little bit of motherly advice. See you in Oregon next week! Holly, I think that is similar to the concoction that we used to mix up and apply to our dogs when they got sprayed by skunks.

Cheers from Warsaw, Poland. Thanks for playing Brygada Kryzys... there was lots of interesting music in the early 80's in Poland, due to many factors mainly the punk movement and the local social/political movement Solidarnosc which eventually resulted in the imposition of the martial law(Dec '81). June 4, 2014 is/was the 25 anniversary of the first free parliamentary elections in any of the Eastern Bloc countries and a landslide victory for Solidarity movement therefore ending communism. Before Prague, Berlin or any other place in the communist countries. Obama just left last morning after the anniversary cellebration... Cheers!
