Amsterdam = great Indonesian restaurants! But you have to pick the right ones - the ones actually run by Indonesian folks that serve the most spicey authentic food. The most modest are often the best - steam table type places (although some of those are take-out only). But there are lots of great sit-down places too. Also check out food from Surinam. Get frites with curry sauce (or mayo) on the street! Or if like me you have a devil may care approach to your health and well being, grab a yummy kaassoufflé or satekroket from a Febo automat machine! Brown bars are great. Belgian beer is plentiful (and the Dutch witbier isn't bad). And surprisingly Holland's own Amstel (regular, non-light) is drinkable. The Netherlands is where I have collected lots of Kaseko music from Surinam, great upbeat very African-influenced music. You can find old Indonesian records in the used / collector type shops but sometimes pricey, and I've done better with that in other Dutch cities. The street markets are great, notably the one on Albert Cuypstraat (Albert Cuyp Market). For record shopping, the old standby is Concerto on Utrechtsestraat 52-60 (there are also a couple of pretty good Indonesian restaurants right on that street, Tujuh Maret and Tempo Doeloe). But there are a bunch of interesting record shops, google around or just walk and see what you bump into. Check out the music schedule at the Melkweg of course, Bimhuis, Paradiso and many other places, this will help: www.timeout.com... . Is that enough? Does it sound like Amsterdam is my favorite city? And I don't even do the obvious thing there... heck, you can do that in Seattle now anyway...

Thanks Rob for that info! Yeah, I don't want to be "that" person. When I travel, I usually like to blend in and not look like a tourist. Though for the next part of our trip, I will definitely stand out.... I don't see a very white girl with red hair blending in when I am in Kenya!

for the line work, it feels like a person writing on you with a capped pen but pushing down hard. Then about a minute later you get a sensation as though you scraped yourself and it tingles. The part that hurts more is the multi needle, but it goes a lot faster. The shading in the body of mine didn't feel awesome, but it was still ok. I just focused on the music he was playing and when it was getting intense I would concentrate on my breathing... and stare at a spot on the ceiling.

That doesn't sound too bad.

I think the most intense pain I've experienced was when I was diagnosed with diabetes and in hospital and the nurse had a hard time getting a needle in my artery.

The second worst pain I've experienced is getting a massage from a physiotherapist.

amsterdam is such a lovely city. plan on renting a bike by the day or week. maybe pack some shoes that deal well with water. find an old fashioned friet stand. there are a lot of falafel places too with a bar of pickled vegetables. the netherlands seems to like fried foods. like you could eat a little bundle of noodles covered in breading and fried. i'm sure you will find your own favorite parts. hope you have fun
