What are your favorite WFMU memories?

@Gaylord: Is Sugarwolf your main squeeze?

@sugarwolf: The first is meeting and dancing with the woman I would later marry (who is not sugarwolf) during a marathon show by Dave the Spazz. Another is when Ari Up crashed my show mid-program; I just happen to have the Slits' version of "Grapevine" with me, which I played, of course! A third is when, back at the old Upsala house, David S. Ware pushed my car out of the snow.

You dig doo-wop, eh? You might check out my take on it "Play on Words" at soundcloud.com/kat330. :) Which leads to my next question: Are you also a singer or musician who creates your own music?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:13pm
Ken From Hyde Park:

Beautiful selections today, Gaylord. What living musician would you most enjoy dining with?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:13pm

I'll take a little pressure off Gaylord and ask Kat330 a question, since I was in western Europe recently and almost EVERYTHING tasted better there: Has Philo's brother been here before? Does he find some of the food here disappointing?

@Herbie: All three. I'm not from Chicago.

@Ike: Kari is a bit of an amateur gourmet chef, so I think he makes whatever he prepares taste quite good. He made a very nice grilling marinade for us, for e.g., and a ice cream treat that included pistachios and drambuie.
Avatar 5:22pm

Thanks Kat330. Wow, drambuie. Fancy.

If you could watch any movie for the rest of your life, what movie would it be?
Also, nice music this afternoon
Avatar 5:24pm

@Ike: Philo suggests I didn't answer your question well. He seemed to have no complaints. I made roast turkey breast and chicken tagine he raved about, and he seemed very pleased with the pizza place we took him and even a roadside diner (which was a surprise treat for us as well).

The aggressive incursion of boxer briefs into the marketplace, it just has that whiff of arrogant Bush shadow-government manipulation, you know, like the Bay of Pigs, Kennedy/King assassinations, Watergate, Iran/Contra, the untimely cancellations of "Freaks 'n' Geeks" and "My So-Called Life," the rising tide of global terrorism, the loss of habeas corpus, and now this expectation that boxer briefs are just going to all but eclipse the traditional styles, like We the People have nothing to say about it.

Gaylord, do you have a favorite Girl Scout cookie? If so, which one?
Avatar 6:39pm
kat330:

@GF: What's your fave *current* music program on FMU?
Avatar 6:40pm
kat330:

Other than your own, of course.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:40pm
Gaylord Fields:

@P-90: Lorna never recorded "Losing My Mind," as far as I know. Also, I once stayed in a hotel room in Memphis formerly occupied by David Gest. Or so the legend goes.
  6:41pm
P-90:

@Gaylord: I think there's more than a few who can say exactly the same thing, they usually don't switch, but that was the lone exception...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:41pm
Sem Chumbo:

@doca: gotta agree, thank the gods old and new for small, tender mercies.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:41pm
Gaylord Fields:

@kat330: What makes you think I like my program?
Avatar 6:42pm
kat330:

Just didn't want to allow you the easy evasion.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:42pm
Gaylord Fields:

Consider that a deflection.

Italo Calvino or Salmon Rushdie?

Gaylord, are you talking about the Memphis hotel room I think you're talking about, or a different one? And if it's that one, how do I not remember the David Gest rumor?
  6:46pm
rw:

Gaylord, Here's a personal one: Is your wife jealous of FMU?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:46pm
Gaylord Fields:

@P-90: I've never seen Pete Best's paintings. But I have talked to him; he was nothing like the taciturn, brooding and aloof figure he has been depicted as.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:47pm
Gaylord Fields:

@Matt F: The one and the same; the Talbot Guesthouse: I think it billed itself as the Best Boutique Hotel in Memphis.

JakeGould:

Gaylord! Thanks for reminding me of the “Press Your Luck” guy. Remember that. Reminds me of this recent video poker scammer article in WIRED. www.wired.com...

@P-90: Is today Sunday? Then Jeff.

I once shared a Memphis hotel room with my sister (the bigger Elvis fan) and some hefty cockroaches. La Quinta Inn. I'd avoid it.

@GF: Where does your incredible knowledge & taste in Music & Culture come from - ? Too broad a question - but yerknow - how did this happen - ?!...

@rw: I can't answer for her. But it must be a bit hard for the spouse of any WFMU on-air person with a standing weekly rendezvous.

i stayed in the elvis presley boulevard motel and met dan greer and the hummingbirds or something vocal group in the diner over the other side of the carpark at breakfast-- i would reccomend that

How can you beat the "Whammy"? Was there collusion from the producers? Wasn't that Jack Barry, who had been involved in the $64,000 Question scandal?
Avatar 6:53pm

An A+ for these Bee songs. This has a Beck feel.
