This is where all of culture and all of time are collapsed into one seductive portal and viewed through the panoramic lens of the exotic. Come and embark on an armchair-travel virtual-voyage to the heart of timeless darkness and beyond; embrace the numinous monolith of the exotic immensity. Let us find that place where hybridization meets its destiny as pure fantasy. Let us become observers observing those others who are ourselves. You wear your mask and I'll wear mine.

Sorry to hear about Fowley. What a character.

"Ivresse Des Profundeurs [Depths of Drunkenness]" translates roughly as "Depths of Drunkenness [Ivresse Des Profundeurs]."
  7:37pm

That tune was Martin Denny's "Enchanted Sea." Hmm, you suppose these SEM Studio cats give Martin any credit? Great version, regardless.

Chaino's name is pronounced Cha-EE-no, according to the back cover of one of his albums.
Of course, it being a made-up name, guess you could pronounce it however you want.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:48pm
Gary:

Funky Rips! Funky Rips! We! Want! Funky! Rips!
Avatar 7:52pm
Flash Strap:

Aha, never again will I butcher the name Chaino; yet, many more's the time I'll mispronounce a name, title, anything in French
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:52pm
Uncle Michael:

Who ripped one? It's funky in here.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:53pm
Uncle Michael:

Evan, there's a fine GTDR tradition of butchering any pronunciation not in English.
Avatar 7:55pm

I'm privileged to perpetuate it!

That Sun Ra recording was perhaps the earliest released recording with a Minimoog. It looks like Sun Ra had made an earlier recording, "Space Proble," which was released commercially later than "Purple Moon":

Again, the right channel is weaker here. And on the previous track. (And possibly before, but I was having dinner and listening on my iPhone.)

Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:23pm

Yes, on this track, right is weak

i'm a socialist. i don't HAVE a right channel.

  8:25pm

Yes, weak right channel on the Max Roach.
Avatar 8:25pm

Let me know if you experience it on the next track, someone, if you don't mind.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:25pm

Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:25pm

I will!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:26pm
Doug Schulkind:

@Flash Strap
The pan button on your mixer is at 12 o'clock?? (Obvious, but I thought I'd mention it.)
Avatar 8:27pm
glenn:

no offense taken, but we calls it peameal, yo.
Avatar 8:27pm
Flash Strap:

It is. 1st thing I checked. I'm gonna swam some cords out and see if that's the issue
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:27pm
Doug Schulkind:

And maybe the Virtual DJ has a L-R pan setting?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:28pm
Gary:

This symphonic thing is balanced fine l-r ... starting to suspect FUNKY RIPS
  8:28pm
Dean:

I'm working with a rinky-dink setup here, including a goofy PC speaker, but VLC allows restricting output to one channel or the other played through both speakers. During the Roach, the right-restricted level was clearly lower than the left. Not so with this Prado.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:29pm
Doug Schulkind:

Now on this track, the L/R sounds and looks (I am recording this in Audacity) more equal. Is this track playing on a channel different from the Max Roach selection? If so, then you can isolate to that other channel.
Avatar 8:30pm
Flash Strap:

This is the turntable, now. It's the digital stuff that's funkin me up. Everything checks out with VDJ's balance settings though. Tuff nut
Avatar 8:32pm
glenn:

i bet you didn't know there was a spring training countdown clock. now you do. www.springtrainingcountdown.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:32pm
Uncle Michael:

I did know.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:32pm
Doug Schulkind:

Turntable looks good, L/R-wise. Maybe you picked up a bug in Funkyrip City.
  8:32pm
SeanG:

this font is really small right?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:33pm
Gary:

Sounds like it's a wire from digital to mixer, or maybe the headphone hole of your computer is compromised (mine is, actually, and I have to use packing tape every time I broadcast, to poosh the cord down.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:33pm
Uncle Michael:

When do pishers and kakers report?
Avatar 8:33pm
glenn:

yep. and i have old man eyes.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:34pm
Gary:

In all the tech talk I totally missed out that this is Perez freakin Prado. Superhero!
Avatar 8:34pm
glenn:

feb. 18.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:35pm
Doug Schulkind:

I wonder if Perez Prado has ever visited the Prado. And if so, did he get free admission?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:35pm
Uncle Michael:

Mine report on the 19th, I think.
Avatar 8:37pm
Flash Strap:

Would Prado have preferred Goya or Bosch, had he visited the Prado? Or is he a Velasquez man?
  8:38pm
Dean:

Sounds like he would have preferred David Rose.
Avatar 8:39pm
Flash Strap:

@Gary: I suspect the problem emanates from that spot. Hopefully a change of cord will help
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:39pm
Doug Schulkind:

He'd run out weeping after encountering Guernica, I'm quite sure.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:42pm
Uncle Michael:

I recommend monitoring with headphones off the digital capture device that your mixer runs to...the one that's converting the analog signal to digital for the computer running SAM. That is, if that's how your signal path is set up.
Avatar 8:46pm
Flash Strap:

is it still runnin weak in the right?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:48pm
Gary:

It's better but there's still a slightly weak right on this Tito Puente track
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:48pm
Doug Schulkind:

Yes.
  8:48pm
Dean:

Yes, still weak.
Avatar 8:49pm

Ah, the 1 advantage of listening through a shitty laptop speaker - all sounds fine here ! ;-)
Avatar 8:49pm
Flash Strap:

Aw dip. Sorry all
  8:50pm
Dean:

TITO puente
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:50pm
Doug Schulkind:

Check the inputs on your soundcard? Mine has a separate fader for left and right feeding into my Nicecast computer. Sometimes I bump one or the other and things get out of whack.

Hey Flash Strap, no worries. The discrepancy is in no way diminishing the majesty of the proceedings!
