Thank you for being there Jeffs. I guess. Is there anyone here?

Hey all - slight delay brought to you by Google. We'll be live momentarily.
Avatar 12:04pm
Jeff J:

Afternoon Fred and Duke!

We've got some exotic sounds for everyone today.

Stupid Google! You go squish now!

commenters! bnaseball lovers! rejoice, for commencing in about an hour, the new york yankess will get the crap kicked out of them.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:08pm
fred:

I sure hope so. For a change I have a day off so there's no boss to play interference
Avatar 12:08pm
glenn:

oops. yankees.
Avatar 12:09pm
Jeff J:

Hey LJFW! Google is stupid indeed. Not wanting to play nice with other basic utilities and platforms.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:09pm

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:10pm
fred:

@glenn: My "I sure hope so" wasn't aimed at the Yankees. It works that way too
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:12pm
Andrew Waterloo:

It sounds like he's coming through as a medium.
Avatar 12:13pm
Jeff J:

Hey Glenn, thanks for joining us. Happy to provide a soundtrack some ball playing.

I'm doing my EVF impression today.

Hey, two Jeffs and many listeners

if i could take you to my local bar, i would. alas, they have no wifi. for some reason they seem to think people should actually talk to each other.

I don't follow baseball, but I am capable of being buoyed up on the swell of excitement of those who do. Happy everyone has their team back on the field now or soon!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:16pm
listener james from westwood:

@glenn: I thought Google outlawed face-to-face talking around the same time they began sharp-elbowing radio hosts' choice of communication gear.
Avatar 12:17pm
doca:

Baseball is the one American sport I don't understand.
Avatar 12:19pm
glenn:

like most simple things, baseball has incredibly complex layers.
Avatar 12:20pm
doca:

@glenn: I always remember a Star Trek DS9 episode in which Ben Sisko tries to teach the (mostly alien) crew how to play baseball. He fails miserably.
Avatar 12:21pm
doca:

But I too get excited over your excitement over the sport.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:24pm

Personal history should make me a Red Sox fan. But the recent success made me like the Mets better. I'm torn
Avatar 12:24pm

a very good book about baseball in italy. - www.amazon.ca...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:30pm
fred:

I mostly care about football. I was a Broncos fan until I went to Foxboro as a high school exchange student. The people were so nice there I've been a Pats fan ever since. Nice doesn't even begin to tell that story
Avatar 12:30pm
Jeff J:

How's this sounding to everyone? Connection seem okay?
Avatar 12:32pm
doca:

That seems like an interesting story, @glenn. Although baseball is utterly foreign to most Brazilians, we do have a folk cricket game called "taco" ("taco" stands for the baseball bat).

@Jeff: Stream is good over here, sound seems too.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:32pm

Sounds fine over in NJ!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:33pm

OH hey, a happy belated Easter and Passover to all relevant parties!

Different version of this cut, lacking the strings/trumpets, or one channel down?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:38pm

(the Nitzsche, that is)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:41pm
listener james from westwood:

Borrowed a large African mask, a footstool made from some tusks, maybe a sea chest...
Avatar 12:44pm
Jeff J:

Must have been a channel out for the Lonely Surfer, LJFW. That's the original version, not some stripped down alt take. Think of it as a special Google remixed version!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:56pm

A chance to hear the base instrumentation of the track!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:58pm

One might say it's all about that base.

Mike Cooper is really getting his due lately.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:20pm
Jeff Golick:

Yah? You mean via reissues and such, @Andrew? Great to see. One more from Cooper later in this show...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:22pm
Andrew Waterloo:

Discovered Cooper while listening to Doug's show a few weeks ago. I've been listening to Trout Steal a lot.
  1:23pm
Dean:

A Sailor tune would fit in well today, just barely.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:24pm
listener james from westwood:

I've never heard this without Ken back-announcing over it and dreading a return to a desk filled with woe. A k a, prepping for Seven Second Delay.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:26pm
Jeff Golick:

Whoa had no idea, @ljfw. Though that does explain why the Kenzo playlist was well acquainted with the tune...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:29pm
Jeff Golick:

This is pretty much 100% pure cheez whiz.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:29pm
listener james from westwood:

Oh, I meant Station Mgr Ken, who closes the show (or used to) with that cut. Though Kenzo may have woven it into one of his sonic tapestries, too! Glad to hear it in isolation, though!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:30pm
Jeff Golick:

Nah, I got that, @ljfw. I just meant the system autofilled rather readily...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:30pm
Andrew Waterloo:

It's always weird to hear somebody's bed music out of context.
  1:32pm
Dean:

Ferry across the Anahulu.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:36pm

I do like Doug's bed-dedicated shows, which give his usual talkover stuff a chance to solo.
Avatar 1:40pm
βrian:

Speaking of scratching your head, did you happen to read that account of someone who compulsively scratched a scalp itch? They scratched so much they almost reached their brain.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:47pm
Jeff Golick:

Ugh.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:49pm
Andrew Waterloo:

@Brian, that seems like the kind of story that starts with "Yo Dudes, did you hear..."
  1:54pm
Dean:

Some of us almost reach our brains scratching other places.
  1:57pm
Dean:

This Cherry tunes reminds me of this Steve Turre (backing Diz): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fkuq6prZHoA
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:58pm
Jeff Golick:

Huh - will check that post-show, Dean!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:59pm
Santos L Halper:

Howdy Jeffs. Nice to have a day off where i can hear you live and w/o interruption. This Cherry is very cool; haven't heard him w/this type of combo before...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:03pm
Jeff Golick:

Hi hi hi, @Santos L Halper. Great to have you here.
  2:16pm
Doug Schulkind:

I will be celebrating Billie Holiday's centennial tomorrow on Give the Drummer Some by airing the entirety of a rare intimate rehearsal tape with Lady Day from 1955. It isn't easy listening, but it is astonishing listening.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:17pm
Jeff Golick:

Heya, Doug. You beat me to the punch.
  2:18pm
Doug Schulkind:

The punch is spiked, Jeff.
  2:20pm
doca:

I was going to say you were building a momentum for some Motian track. Love his trio stuff.
  2:21pm
Dean:

My parents heard Billie Holiday live in SF not long before she died, which was shortly after I was born. I don't recall hearing the show from the womb. I must have been tipsy from the two drink minimum. Ms. Holiday was not in good shape. My father had to help her get on stage.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:23pm
Uncle Michael:

The sound of Frisell woke me from a nap...in a good way.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:24pm
Jeff Golick:

Agreed, @doca. And good Spidey sense there.

@UM: you are moving! It's alive!

And yowza, @Dean.
  2:25pm
Doug Schulkind:

My father saw Billie live in D.C. In the early '50s. (He also saw live another brilliant performer from Baltimore: Babe Ruth. In 1933.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:26pm
Jeff Golick:

I'm not even sure my father saw Billy Martin.
  2:26pm
Dean:

Yeah, well, my father saw the Toledo Mud Hens.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:27pm
Uncle Michael:

I once went on holiday and ate a Baby Ruth.
  2:28pm
Dean:

I do recall seeing Charles Lloyd at the old Catalina Bar & Grill, despite the two-drink minimum. It was the band with Bobo Stenson.
  2:30pm
Dean:

After my second martini at that very same venue, where I sat front row center, Jimmy Smith told me to cut down on the drinking.
  2:33pm
Doug Schulkind:

Ok, my meal break is over. Gotta go stack some Triscuits.
  2:34pm
Dean:

You should request Pringles patrol, Doug. They stack more easily.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:41pm
Uncle Michael:

You're too kind, Jeff.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:44pm
Jeff Golick:

Naw. That was some show.
  2:52pm
Dean:

Roy Campbell, always singing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:55pm
Artie Haywire:

Silly Pharoah!
  2:56pm
Dean:

Two notes in I knew it was Ehrlich.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:57pm
Jeff Golick:

So true, @Dean. He's missed.

Hello, @Artile! Bricks aren't for kids?
  2:57pm
doca:

Thanks for the show, Jeff(s)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:57pm
Artie Haywire:

Bricks, and kids, and pyra-mids. Stack'em, stack'em, ho!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:58pm
Jeff Golick:

Thanks so much for tuning in, @doca!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:58pm
Andrew Waterloo:

Yes, great show, thank you
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:59pm

Thanks to YOU, Mr. Waterloo!
