Greetings, all. Today it's France vs. Italy, with music from La 1919, Tasaday, F.A.R., Christina Kubisch, Riccardo Sinigaglia, Costes, Pascal Comelade, Nu Creative Methods, Etant Donnés, Vox Populi, DDAA, Die Form, Toupidek Limonade, STPO, and many others.

the Canterbury wood-elf:

Hi Tony! This should be interesting...
Have you ever heard Pascal Comelade's instrumental cover of Matching Mole's "O Caroline"? Beautiful stuff.
Avatar 12:08pm
Tony Coulter:

Hola, Jeff G and wood-elf!!

@ Canterbury wood-elf: I have heard that PC MM cover, yes -- it is indeed great!
Avatar 12:14pm
Tony Coulter:

The Comelade I'll be playing today is pretty atypical. It follows on Costes trackwise and isn't that much of a transition.
Avatar 12:19pm
Tony Coulter:

So, Out of Standard!! - Italia 1 is sort of heavy on "industrial" stuff, while Italia 2 is more in an ambient/experimental vein. The difference between France 1 & 2 isn't that clearcut ... to me, anyhow.

Why aren't Tape Hiss shows archived? Just curious...

Dean:

Hoping for a live track by Many Others.
Avatar 12:23pm
Tony Coulter:

@ Canterbury wood-elf: It's 'cause I play whole recordings and sometimes unreleased stuff. The station powers-that-be wish to avoid all legal risk.
Avatar 12:24pm
Tony Coulter:

Heya Dean! Many Others are my favorite band!! I love their first album, "Manly Udders."
  12:24pm
Dean:

I'm partial to their second, "Any Mothers."
Avatar 12:28pm
still b/p:

I've always wondered how permissions and rules, official and otherwise, work when it comes to DJ premium compilations and such.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:29pm
the Canterbury wood-elf:

...not to mention DJs playing bootleg live recordings, homemade stuff pulled down off YouTube, etc.
Avatar 12:30pm
Carmichael:

Good day Tony and ponderers of laws.
Avatar 12:30pm
Tony Coulter:

Hey there, still b/p!!

As to your (and wood-elf's) question: ummm...
Avatar 12:30pm
Tony Coulter:

G'Day, Carmichael!!
Avatar 12:34pm

(Court reporter: "That was 'Ummm...,' is that correct?")
Avatar 12:38pm

@ wood-elf: men in black suits are on their way to help you sort out your line of questioning! ; )

I chant "ummm" instead of OM.

Ummm, Manny paid me, homes.

Dean:

Returned from my dentist for a cleaning this a.m. Sounded similar to this.
Avatar 12:50pm
Tony Coulter:

@ Dean: Is your dentist Italian?
  12:51pm
Dean:

As a matter of fact, yes. His Fiat has a license plate reading SALUME. His office is equipped with an espresso machine. And his office door is in Italian. No kidding.
  12:51pm
Dean:

"...sign on the office door is in Italian."
Avatar 12:54pm
northguineahills:

Wow, I actually have heard of FAR Prothesis (and now Costes). Always rare on Tape Hiss. Been trying unsuccessfully to post a comment for 15 minutes now.
Avatar 12:56pm
Tony Coulter:

Hey, NGH!

Sorry to hear you're having problems with the comments. Wonder why? All seems OK on my end....
Avatar 1:00pm
Tony Coulter:

Forgot to mention that Pierre Bastien is one half of Nu Creative Methods (on now)
  1:02pm
Mark Williams:

Hi Doug. And hello to all and sundry as well. More ADN tapes - nice one, Tony. I let myself get dragged to Laibach last night. I have drama-trauma now.
Avatar 1:04pm
Tony Coulter:

Armand Mirales was in Heratius, btw.
Avatar 1:04pm
Tony Coulter:

Hey, Mark!

Just lai bach and relax....
Avatar 1:04pm
Tony Coulter:

(groan....)
  1:05pm
Mark Williams:

if only i'd thought of that one last night, Tony. Mind you, there was plenty of groan-material on display.
Avatar 1:08pm
Tony Coulter:

Are they still running with the stormtrooper shtick?
  1:12pm
Mark Williams:

hard to say. They look and feel like the grimy cousin of Dead Can Dance at times. The one that plots to assassinate Archdukes and so on.
Avatar 1:18pm
Tony Coulter:

So, I hope all you judges are keeping score. I expect you to declare a winner when this Italy vs. France match is over.
  1:18pm
Mark Williams:

most bemusing is a quote on their Wiki page which says "Laibach are Rammstein for grown ups."

Ok, no more on that topic, I promise.
  1:19pm
Mark Williams:

is this a variant of the Eurovision song contest, Tony? That's coming up, you know.
  1:21pm
Dean:

J'adore l'Italie!
Avatar 1:21pm
Tony Coulter:

Sort of a cassette-underground Eurovision / world cup hybrid, maybe.
  1:23pm
Dean:

Oh no; that sucks.
Avatar 1:30pm
Jesse K:

This is super nice right here.
Avatar 1:31pm
Tony Coulter:

Heya Jesse! Kind of like Antonin Artaud, a bit, maybe....
Avatar 1:33pm
Jesse K:

Or could have plausibly been made 5 years ago.
Avatar 1:34pm
Tony Coulter:

True!
  1:36pm
Mark Williams:

This kind of synthesizer sound on this Evitaxal track is so dreamily emblematic for me of this entire era of cassette material. I'm hearing half the early Pink Dots material just about, never mind tons of Insane releases. Wonder what the technology was that gave us this. Anyone?
Avatar 1:36pm
northguineahills:

It's my laptop, it goes through conniptions every now and then.
Avatar 1:39pm
Tony Coulter:

@ Mark Williams: Good question! I know exactly what you mean ... but have no answer....
  1:40pm
Mark Williams:

Alain Neffe would know!
Avatar 1:41pm
Tony Coulter:

Very true -- I will ask.
Avatar 1:44pm
Tony Coulter:

Christina Kubisch is German, but was living in Italy in the '80s (maybe still?), so is an honorary Italian.
Avatar 1:59pm
Tony Coulter:

Here's a poster for today's Italy–France match (if you're not on FB, you probably won't be able to see it): www.facebook.com...
  2:01pm

blurry = hissy.
Avatar 2:01pm
Tony Coulter:

Oops -- missed the transition to this Riccardo Sinigaglia / Mario De Leo pice (on now). Sorry!
Avatar 2:04pm
Tony Coulter:

"piece"

Oy!!
  2:16pm
Mark Williams:

I've got Italy ahead on points (goals, faked injuries, etc), so France needs a good last round!
Avatar 2:24pm
Kay:

Maybe you need some Swiss comps to break the tie.
Avatar 2:25pm
Tony Coulter:

Some of France's star players are playing in this final round -- so victory may yet be theirs.
Avatar 2:25pm
Tony Coulter:

Hola, Kay!
Avatar 2:31pm
northguineahills:

Gotta go, thanks Tony. I've actually heard of most of these artists of the last three cassettes. Always dug DDAA!
  2:31pm
Mark Williams:

I think that Swiss idea is riddled with holes...
Avatar 2:32pm
Tony Coulter:

See yerz, NGH!
Avatar 2:33pm
Tony Coulter:

Forgot to mention: Moly (on now) = Lieutenant Caramel
Avatar 2:34pm
Tony Coulter:

More drills for Dean.
Avatar 2:51pm
Tony Coulter:

Hope you have your score cards ready -- the match is almost over.
  2:55pm
Mark Williams:

France blatantly cheating in speaking German here. That's a reduction, no?
Avatar 2:57pm
Tony Coulter:

You're right -- except Italy had a German stringer on their team. So that evens things out.
Avatar 2:57pm
Tony Coulter:

Btw, I messed up the accuplaylisting during side B of Itlaia 2. Don't hold that against Team Italia.
  2:57pm
