Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!

Hmm. Today's playlist image goes rather strangely with the gospel now playing on the stream.

Hey ho, Uncle M!

Do you all stuff your birds or do your dressing separately?
  12:07pm
Dean:

I gotcher wishbone right here!
Avatar 12:07pm
Tony Coulter:

Dean! Greets!
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 12:07pm
listener james from westwood:

@UM, we do dressing separately. Easier to control bird and bread as separate entities.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:09pm
Uncle Michael:

How does one learn about the birds and the breads if you dress separately?
  12:16pm
Dean:

Y'all seen the work of the stock photo-bomber? http://bit.ly/1NnOHfG

Thank you, Tony! I was somehow very nervous at my maiden voyage and many things slipped out of my brain, but I survived.

@Mayuko
Good thing you were wearing the GTDR new deejay brain spillover bib. That stuff can get messy!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:31pm
JtotheK:

hi everybody!
Avatar 12:32pm
Tony Coulter:

Hiya, JtotheK!
Avatar 12:35pm
Mayuko:

Maybe I should design brain spillover bib as a marathon premium for listeners too that they can put on while they tune in for us.
Avatar 12:38pm
Tony Coulter:

Good idea. Brain melt stains are very unsightly.
Avatar 12:39pm
Tony Coulter:

Even worse than melted cheese....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:40pm
Doug Schulkind:

Excellent idea, Mayuko. So far, it appears researchers have only addressed brain spillover for readers, not listeners: www.apa.org...
Avatar 12:47pm
Mayuko:

haha! seems from this image I think I will experience less brain meltdown when I become "high-skilled" DJ (and listener.)

Hi, Tony, all.

I ate already, thanks.

coffy! such a great song/soundtrack...
Avatar 12:53pm
Tony Coulter:

Parts of this Duello Madre track remind me of Picchio Dal Pozzo.
  1:10pm
Dean:

I'll see your Picchio Dal Pozzo and raise you a Secret Oyster, which is what this Bella Band sounds like to me.
Avatar 1:18pm
Tony Coulter:

What makes Duello Madre a higher card is that they recorded their album before Picchio dal Pozzo released anything.
Avatar 1:21pm
northguineahills:

Not sure why, but I like this Manuel Rosenthal. Reminds me of later Satie orchestral pieces.
Avatar 1:23pm
Tony Coulter:

Hey NGH! As I said (on mic), he was a student of Ravel's, so there's some built-in affinity with Satie for sure, I'd say.
Avatar 1:26pm
Tony Coulter:

Listening to it, you'd never guess it was written in the middle of WWII. Seems pretty cheery, all things considered.
  1:36pm
WTF:

Who brought this classical fucker home to meet the family?
Avatar 1:37pm

Give him a chance -- he can get down with the homies.

Tony Coulter:

Did anyone see Magma during their recent U.S. tour? I did, and was very impressed.
Avatar 2:14pm
Mayuko:

I couldn't really tell - just a couple words here and there, like "tomorrow" but was too abstract for me to comprehend the context. Somehow just the sounding of the syllables were familiar to me. Maybe if I pay a real close attention to the archive, I could hear more.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:15pm
Rich in Washington:

I missed it! A few friends went and enjoyed it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:17pm
Rich in Washington:

It must've made an impression; the hipster burger cart I go to occasionally was playing Magma in their dining area a few weeks back.
Avatar 2:17pm
Tony Coulter:

@ Rich: Then there's Finnish -- which is pretty much the same thing as Kobaian.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:19pm
Rich in Washington:

It IS! My wife's half Finnish(ed) and her mom and a cousin are old Finnish folklore and language scholars, respectively. It's pretty bizarre.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:20pm
Rich in Washington:

There's a big Finnish community in my immediate neighborhood.

I've seen Magma in 1979 & 1989. What is not to love of the greatness of Christian Vander/Magma!?

We're setting records in the Hudson Valley - my sister will be going to Portland next week, so keep it cool!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:30pm

hadn't heard that full V.D. Parks track before, but it sounded familiar -- and then research shows Madlib sampled it, so that's where i'd heard (part of) it before...
Avatar 2:31pm

@ Webhamster Henry: By next week Portland won't be cool anymore. Your sister will have to go to Detroit instead.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:32pm
Webhamster Henry:

I usually listen to Song Cycle all the way through and don't know the names of parts of it!
Avatar 2:33pm
Tony Coulter:

@ Jtothek: Fred Frith also borrowed a bit of the arrangement of that Van Dyke Parks track (to my ears, anyhow): www.youtube.com...
Avatar 2:36pm
Tony Coulter:

For the song 'The Welcome,' from "Cheap at Half the Price."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:42pm
JtotheK:

thanks tony! that reminds me...i found a fred frith record 'gravity' recently, and it's still sitting on the 'to listen to' pile. i'll have to give that one a spin...soon!

Avatar 2:47pm

Hey, LCS! I'm not faulting Frith at all -- it's definitely creative recontextualization. Still pops out at me, though.
