I play music that is old and that is new. Some of it is digital while some is analog. It is from many different countries; sometimes it is loud and at other times it is quiet.

I don't think this list is complete since it's missing "The Fox's Wedding" but here are some names for rain. www.japan-talk.com...

Good afternoon Mayuko!

Hi fred! I guess by the time the show starts it will be late for you, but hope you'll enjoy the gentle rains later!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:25pm
fred:

It will be late for the neighbors, so I'll have to hit the archives later. I kinda like rain, but also hate it when I have to walk through it at night: it slows me down, and the next day my jeans are still drenched

fred:

I really like the sound of rain, though

love this!

Hi Mayuko! Now is when you should change the playlist status to LIVE!

I have to run to my a parent-teacher conference for my daughter. Hope to be back before you're off!

Mayuko:

Hi Sasha, thanks for tuning in! Doug, I might have picked the wrong option when I created this playlist in the first place. I'll look into it. Sorry about the mess!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:06pm
Doug Schulkind:

Mayuko, no worries! We'll get it all sorted out. I made your playlist Live. Remember to change the status to Finished when done!

> 天泣 tenkyuu: rain from a cloudless sky

Oh this is my favourite type of rain by far, let me make a note of this name.
Avatar 5:10pm
Mayuko:

Hi Jason, I think in the area where I used to live it was more common to call that type of rain "the Fox's Wedding". Thanks for tuning in!
  5:18pm
Jason:

Hey Mayuko & all. Interestiing - it seems that every language apart from English also has a poetic name for this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sunshower ... mostly marriages, but I like FInland: 'foxes are taking bath'
Avatar 5:23pm
Mayuko:

That is extremely interesting, Jason, thank you for that!!! So apparently many different cultures have the same/similar ideas either about wedding or fox!

I love this song and could not avoid playing it for a rainy show, james!

Ken From Hyde Park:

Hi, Mayuko and drummer fans. More chances for throat singing on Dan Bodah's show later on on the regular stream/airwaves.
Avatar 5:49pm
Mayuko:

Hallos Ken! Thanks for tuning in. I tactfully avoid throat singing stuff and played jews harp track from that album! haha.

Dean:

Richter is one of the greatest Western musicians of all time, no question.
  6:08pm
P-90:

Konbanwa Mayko! I'm lucky today to hear you second hour live.
  6:12pm
P-90:

"Gamelan Prog Rock" might not be traditional, but it sounds like something I'd like to hear.
  6:15pm
Dean:

I'm unaware of their ever having gone gamelan, but Jade Warrior could have produced gamelan prog rock.
  6:19pm
P-90:

Wow! Did you say Greg S. from Deerhoof will be your live guest next week? You're becoming like a big-time all-star DJ already, Mayuko!
Avatar 6:23pm
Mayuko:

Welcome on board, Dean, thank you for tuning in!
Avatar 6:25pm
Mayuko:

Hi P-90! Nah, it's just Greg is just so nice that he doesn't change the way he is depending on who he's talking to, no matter how famous/nobody that is. He likes WFMU so he's kindly okayed visiting this new DJ!

isn't this one of those traditional songs that has its own particular dance to accompany it?

We need your help at WFMU! We have new T-shirts for swag, and more information of the fundraiser here: www.wfmu.org... You can also help me reach my goal by clicking the banner on top of this page and credit your pledge to this show. That'd be much appreciated!!

oh I think so, P-90, I never done it myself but seems like that song is often used for lessons of Nihon-Buyo.

P-90:

Funny how a little bit of Gilberto always fits in any program of music.

Many thanks, Mayuko!

fred:

Thanks for playing Ruslan Jumabaev! I only got to see him perform once, but he was really great. I'm so happy you enjoyed the Kyrgyz performance. I love their music, but it gets very little support, anywhere
Coincidentally, "rain" is the name of one of my favorite dance shows, the one I've seen the most (set to Steve Reich's music for 18 musicians, it completely changed to way I hear this music)
Avatar 4:13am
Mayuko:

@fred ahh, Steve Reich! I don't know why I didn't take that minimal music route for this show (although I guess it WAS pretty minimal show anyway...) Wish I had better time calculation, would have been nice to properly introduce the Kyrgyz performance in Brooklyn. Anyway thank you for listening!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:39pm
fred:

Not sure you'll like it, but here's part of my fave dance work ever, with my favorite dancer, Cynthia Loemij, second from front, with long dark hair: www.youtube.com...
I don't like the film that much, but it gives you an idea
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:41pm
fred:

Also, you have to see this: www.youtube.com...
Then hopefully experience it. Because dance it so much better seen first-hand. I guess it's my sport.
Avatar 7:22pm
Mayuko:

Thank you fred, so far I've watched the first one. I liked the music a lot - I have never really been familiar with dance performance, so I guess my brain is still trying to comprehend this language. Fase looks absolutely beautiful from the first couple of minutes though, I will definitely watch the whole thing. Wish I could see them on stage in real. Would love to physically experience this intense feeling.
