I play music that is old and that is new. Some of it is digital while some is analog. It is from many different countries; sometimes it is loud and at other times it is quiet.

Heya Mayuko and the listening public. From where is that picture?
Avatar 5:21pm
Mayuko:

Thanks Charlie, that means a lot to me to hear that from you! Welcome on board, Carmichael! That picture is from a dream... (translation: I don't know where that is)

Artie Haywire:

Tuned in. Here for the dreamtime.
Avatar 5:26pm
Mayuko:

Hello, Artie Haywire, thank you for tuning in! Soon it will be less nightmare-ish. Though nightmare can be beautiful too sometimes.

Greetings, Mayuko. Have you met little Dusty yet, the new mascot?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:27pm

One of the craziest concerts I ever saw was Diamanda Galas, I think in Minneapolis?

greetings Mayuko and others

Mayuko:

Hi, Ken, thanks for tuning in! I haven't met the Dusty yet. I don't even know what Chincilla really is, to be honest, I'll have to find out. a kind of rodent or a rabbit, right?
Avatar 5:33pm
northguineahills:

Howdy folks!
Avatar 5:34pm
northguineahills:

Yes, chinchillas are rodents that are native to the Andes.
Avatar 5:34pm
Mayuko:

ohh, coelacanth, glad to see you on this time slot! I think I usually see you when I do over night shows.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:39pm
coelacanth:

yes i'm a bit of a night owl.
Avatar 5:40pm
Mayuko:

northguineahills, thanks for tuning in and the chinchilla info. So Dusty should be originally from andes. Glad to have a hispanic person as our mascot. Although chinchilla could be part of pre-hispanic culture.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:42pm
Ken From Hyde Park:

Here is some chinchilla info. www.livescience.com... The article mentions that the pet chinchillas in this country are descendents of eleven animals that were brought here in 1923.
Avatar 5:42pm
Mayuko:

oh coelacanth, I was thinking you were from other time zone! haha!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:43pm
Charlie:

all you overnight night owls should get along with the chinchillas, which are crepuscular. then again, you owls might want to eat a chinchilla, so maybe that won't work out.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:44pm
coelacanth:

chinchillas speak quechua!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:49pm

...i'm just an hour+1/2 northwest of where you sit (or stand) Mayuko. i just have a disobedient circadian rhythm.

Charlie, chinchillas need not fear this night owl. - 'not enough meat on those little fur-balls!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:50pm
Polyus:

Paul Metzger, St. Paul's finest!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:51pm
Charlie:

coelacanth -- so what happens to the chinchilla meat after their fur is taken for coats?
Avatar 5:51pm
Mayuko:

That's very true, Charlie, this does sound like raga. I heard Daniel Higgs' track doing banjo raga too, seems like that's what banjo does!
Avatar 5:52pm
Carmichael:

I know this underlying banjo theme from somewhere. My brain gears will smoke and eventually seize up until I recall it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:54pm
coelacanth:

Charlie i don't know. it's sad to think about killing an animal without using every part of it, but i've never heard of chinchilla meat.
....i know i'll never eat chinchilla. (or wear it)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:56pm
coelacanth:

yeah this is awesome! (& raga-ish)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:58pm
Gary:

Super love for that Paul Metzger track
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:00pm
Charlie:

Yeah, very cool. That's a lot of strings for a (modified) banjo. That's enough info for me.
Avatar 6:01pm
Carmichael:

Aaah, the Pogues' "Pachinko" uses the same melody. That's where I heard it, although I'm sure they nicked it from an old sea shanty or something.

Certified WFMU crossover hit!
@Rich, I used to do page layout myself. Some publications were a lot less fun than others. Oddly, I miss the table-heavy psych journals the most. So many little challenges to unkink for each article.

Suzy Soundz aka The Space Lady would stand on the street with a hat on with lights on it and stare off into the distance while playing her keyboard. Here's a photo I just found online of her from around that time: nightdrivemiami.files.wordpress.com...
Avatar 6:40pm
Mayuko:

ngh: This Rolf Julius stuff is part of a permanent outdoor audio installation at the Mattress Factory in Pittsburgh, so if it's "permanent" it should still be there right?! Would be really cool to be surrounded by this sound!

She kind of scared me at the time, I have to admit. I mean, she would stand there like a statue, except for her fingers and mouth, which were moving while she played and sang. But whenever I ran into her, I would always stop and listen for a while.
