Wow. Whatastart. TUNE!!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:08pm

Peter! So nice to see you, but please tell me how I can hear your show in the future online, you'll still be doing a show somewhere, yes?
Avatar 7:11pm
Peter Nelson:

Bakas...of course!
No worries. Something will happen, for sure.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:13pm
Gary:

I'm going to send you a link to 18 Asakawa Maki albums, Peter ... tomorrow or Friday, in gratitude for your terrific show. I loved it, and am still reeling from the news :(
Avatar 7:15pm

Howdee and unthankyou fellow popheads. Gimme pecan pie now!

Do you say PEE-can or pe-CAHN?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:18pm
Gary:

Hey, Doug is live! Are you not workin tonight?
Avatar 7:19pm
Peter Nelson:

Awww. Ta. Feelings mutual. Really, really, really interesting first set tonight.
Thanks, I love Maki. I've got a few bits of Japanese punk and metal you might like.

Doug...out here in Oregon we say pecahn.

Just got home. But I work tomorrow, 4pm - fookin midnight.

Yeah, I couldn't find the Bathtub S******s, for instance, and would love to hear! We'll trade!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:21pm

I'm pretty steamed about it, but whaddyagonnado?

Say it, Gary, say it....Bathtub Shitter! Okididdlydokey. On it's way.

Good evening, Gary and all! Just got home in time for this Laos thing. Sounding pretty great!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:27pm
Doug Schulkind:

Oddly, just after this track came on, my eyes scanned an online headline that reads: "What Made Dozens Of People Hide In The Laotian Forest For Years?" Here: www.huffingtonpost.com...
Avatar 7:27pm
Sarah N:

What a groovy show. Hypnotic.

Peckanns Peekarrns Picuns...just hand me a slice!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:28pm
Gary:

Hi Mayuko! Maybe you can help me when I play some Ainu stuff a bit later ... :)
Avatar 7:30pm
Mayuko:

Sure I can try, even though their language is completely different from mine! I love Ainu art and culture.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:31pm
Gary:

Whoa, Doug, they didn't know the Khmer Rouge had ended
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:32pm
Gary:

I didn't realize it was a wholly other language, Mayuko ... I have two tracks, one I think next set and one later in the show ... they're both amazing, I think
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:35pm
Doug Schulkind:

Maybe they will find a community of forest-dwellers deep in Western Minnesota in 2041 who didn't know the Trumpers had been overthrown.
Avatar 7:46pm
Mayuko:

yah, it's pretty interesting. Ainu culture seems more similar to Inuit and other northern people in Russia like Nivkhi, Uilta. I think Japanese culture more relates to Chinese/Koreans.
  7:48pm
Jill B.:

Doug, that is fascinating. I am going to find the book at our library. Thumpers! Bite your tongue.
Avatar 7:48pm

Great theme tonight in any case, super interesting!

I think Rimse is "dancing.", I've heard of Iomante Rimse, part of their bear ritual.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:17pm

Ah, interesting ... thank you so much, Mayuko. This definitely sounds like a song you can dance to!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:18pm
Uncle Michael:

Taking a cut-the-hell-out-of-my-finger break from a busy kitchen night.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:23pm
Gary:

Oh, man. One of my first jobs was prep cook for an Italian restaurant in San Francisco and almost every day I was bandaging one of my fingers.
Avatar 8:24pm
Mayuko:

oh no, Uncle Michael!
Avatar 8:24pm
glenn:

try running your thumb through a table saw. or firing a finishing nail through your finger.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:25pm

I like the Gurindji Blues
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:25pm
Uncle Michael:

I staunched the bleeding sufficiently to type.

Glenn, do you think either of those first aid tips will really help?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:26pm
Doug Schulkind:

Many kitchen professionals have no or barely any fingerprints left after burning their digits so many times. Rough way to make a living.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:26pm
Gary:

Hi Melinda! Glenn, I prefer NOT to try those things. Heal quickly, Michael!
Avatar 8:26pm
glenn:

now that was funny.
Avatar 8:28pm
Peter Nelson:

Speaking as an ex-kitchen pro....I once sliced the tip of a finger open cutting pizza dough and a bubble of muscle popped out. Had to be pushed back in. Ouch.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:29pm
Gary:

Auugh! That's a horrifying image
Avatar 8:30pm
Peter Nelson:

It was more alarming than painful.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:31pm
Gary:

Pretty deeply alarming, I would think
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:31pm
Uncle Michael:

fingertips are real bleeders
Avatar 8:32pm
Sarah N:

Bloody hell!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:32pm
Gary:

^Ditto
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:33pm
Uncle Michael:

Hard to get a band-aid on while it was bleeding...or a plaster...as you Brits would say.
Avatar 8:34pm
Peter Nelson:

Much confusion between getting a plaster and getting plastered.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:35pm
Uncle Michael:

Doug, my grandfather simply outlived his fingerprints...they wore smooth. He used to say he was only still married so there'd be someone to wind his watch.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:35pm
Uncle Michael:

That might have been a euphemism.
Avatar 8:36pm
Peter Nelson:

Do you need fingerprints to wind a watch, euphemistically speaking?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:36pm
Uncle Michael:

He also wore two watches...claiming he couldn't trust just one. I never thought to ask him what he did when they disagreed.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:37pm
Uncle Michael:

He claimed that without prints he couldn't get a grip to wind the stem.
Avatar 8:37pm
Peter Nelson:

Tee hee. Snicker.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:38pm
melinda:

Outliving one's fingerprints is a weird concept.
Avatar 8:39pm

It is isn't it. What a cute truck/van Melinda!

Hey there, Left Bank! Very happy to have the opportunity to play Owl Child!
Avatar 8:47pm

I think Ainu now only live in Hokkaido - but all those islands and Sakhalin/Karafuto peninsula that Russian and Japanese has had fights over used to be theirs, I think!

Mayuko:

Love this Vietnamese stuff.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:50pm
Gary:

Mayuko, I have so much Vietnamese stuff I've been wanting to play ... I might have to just do a whole show soon
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:52pm
Doug Schulkind:

That was a wonderful companion recording to the "two young girls of Burundi" songs appearing on an Ocora field recording. Here is one of those songs: youtu.be...
Avatar 8:52pm
Mayuko:

I wanna hear you do all Vietnamese show, Gary!!

I heard what sounded like a haka and wasn't surprised to read it was Maori.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:57pm
Gary:

I've played a super-amped-up version of this Upper Hutt Posse song before, more than once, but this is the original track -- still pretty killer, I think
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:00pm

That was stupendous.
