A viking ship appears on the horizon, a likeness of Alice Coltrane carved into its bow. Rare birds flock together to sing Francoise Hardy as soul hits. A sunset of blips and bleeps fills the air.

I grew up in Florida, and my wife grew up in Mexico. I'm just as likely to make soup from scratch when it's 100F/38C as I would when it's 15F/-9C. I still eat cold desserts in the winter, and my noodle choices I cook don't change (I have some matcha soba in the fridge. Now that I live in the northlands, I suppose my clothes change w/ the seasons. (I pretty much eat mostly noodles and soup when not making Mexican cuisine all year).

To be pedantic, a "reboot" is a restart, not a new season. And it's generally with new actors and usually a new take on the material. But this term is often misused.

You definitely miss seasons when you move to Los Angeles. At first it's great that you can sleep in any Saturday because there is no winter prep. Then you realize two years have passed and you don't feel them. Also, winter makes people bond in the face of attacks from weather -- it builds communities.

Right cricket over for the day. First time a black South African has scored a test century. As to TV, has The Bridge made it to the US? It's a Swedish/Danish cop show (but much much more than that), and the lead actress, Sofia Helin, is astonishingly good. Since series 3 ended I can;t really watch much else. But I did like The Knick a lot.

"Valérian: Spatio-Temporal Agent" has been an influential, much-loved work of science fiction since 1967 or so (the "Barbarella" era), that has enjoyed huge popularity in Europe, while remaining unaccountably almost unknown to the general American audience. But fans have always known it as a big influence on Star Wars, in story, visual style and "feel". The final design of the Millenium Falcon was a last-minute decision and has always looked like it was inspired by Valerian's ship, the XB982. Now there's buzz about all this in the media because director Luc Besson is shooting his dream project, a big-budget adaptation of the Valerian et Laureline epic "Empire of a Thousand Planets", whose title alone suggests a Star Wars rip-off, but which preceded Star Wars itself. -End of geek-out.
