A viking ship appears on the horizon, a likeness of Alice Coltrane carved into its bow. Rare birds flock together to sing Francoise Hardy as soul hits. A sunset of blips and bleeps fills the air.

Smaller states should rotate in 1st place. Iowa and NH wouldn't like it, but f#ck 'em. A national caucus or primary isn't a good idea though, because it would favor wealthier candidates. If you start in a smaller state where marketing is cheaper, smaller candidates have a better chance of getting a leg up.

The age split in Iowa between Clinton and Sanders stuns me. Pretty much 50/50 between young people and old people.

Adrian, all i have left of my somewhat extensive music collection are three CD holders full to the brim, double-packed. i hold on to them thinking some day i might install them SOMEWHERE *not* itunes. to think of the money i spent on them is another reason i hold on.. no one would want my collection. i don't mind selling them to someone who would appreciate the effort it took to collect them.. but..then.. possessions are transitory. maybe i'll just donate them to fmu.. or not.. oh the mixed feelings i get..

  10:28am
JakeGould:

Back in the late 1990s when MP3s started to become a thing, I began ripping my CDs into MP3s and a few years later, I got rid of them all. I miss the physicality to an extent, but I don’t miss the media itself. I know that’s a bit of sacrilege on WFMU, but honestly for normal folks if you have the choice between MP3 and CD, just go with MP3s. Worried about losing your collection? Just get an extra hard drive for backups.

With record stores pricing used CDs between $4-$7, I've found it cheaper to purchase older music in a physical format. I burn it onto an iPod and then file the CD as a backup.

the hard part of collecting these days is the price of new LPs. $20-35? ouch.
  10:35am

@sphere: Yup. Weird. I respect crate diggers, but I also respect their backs. I tossed my collections of CDs and LPs after moving a few times and realizing that stuff was like 40% of what I was moving.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:36am

Still, humping huge heavy boxes of CDs and vinyl is much cheaper than gym membership; you're never more ripped than when you move house!

you know how many times I've had to move 27 Jandek albums?
  10:40am
JakeGould:

@Adrian: I worked in my college bookstore back in the day. Tossing 25 pound boxes of textbooks day after day makes the novelty of a media-type to deliver ideas wear off after a while. I still have books, but I have been doing that KonMari method stuff for years: If I don’t use something or care about something after a while, I toss it in some way. Ether by selling it or donating it somewhere; whatever works.

A friend got a job in Geneva a couple of years ago and had, by law, to have six months' worth of canned and dried food in her bomb shelter. It always had to be in date and the authorities had the right to inspect the bomb shelter and take appropriate action if things were not in order. Plus the Swiss get sniffy if you flush your toilet in the early hours or wash your car on a Sunday.
