I had a dream last night of a film-screening event in a doll house (with a small screen) hosted by you, Tony. The house was packed! Kinda surreal but I take it as a good sign for this marathon show today.
Avatar 11:46am
Tony Coulter:

Hiya, Mayuko!!

Your dream was much nicer than mine. Mine was about a pudgy boy who showed up at our house late at night and kept on trying to sell us spicy candies. I hope yours is the dream that comes true!

Tony Coulter:

So it's that time of year, everyone: Marathonapalooza! I've got lots of great prizes for you, a premium I'm proud of, and a comments co-host: the great Mayuko, of Play Vertigo fame.

HOWEVER, our new pledging system is still a bit loopy, so I'm going to keep repeating this same message until you can't take it anymore:

Today's prizes include fab CDs, LPs, and singles from Pierre Bastien, Glenn Phillips, Ariel Pink, Dust, Inflatable Boy Clams, The Stroke Band, Birgé, Gorgé, Shiroc, Joe Crow, and the Glaxo Babies! All it takes to get in the running for any of them is a pledge of $20. $50 also gets you a t-shirt, and $75 gets you a t-shirt, plus my premium.

Whether pledging before, during or after a show, in order for the pledge to be credited to a show's goal, that show must be selected in the manner described here, otherwise it goes in the station's coffers but the show is not credited. And if the show is not credited, the DJ won't know about the pledge in order to thank you for it...or for you to win fabulous prizes: blogfiles.wfmu.org...

I'm reading old newspapers online, where in a Sacramento Daily Record from January 1883 I find a "List of Letters Remaining in the Post Office at Sacramento." The list is divided thusly: Ladies' List, Gentlemen's List, Foreign Chinese. Adjacent to the list, an ad for Simmonds' Nabob Pure Kentucky Bourbon & Old Rye Whiskeys, which "are acknowledged by eminent surgeons to be the purest and finest known, and invaluable to invalids.... Everybody who has tried it says it is the best in the world." Thought I'd share.

It's often the case when someone say they like Japanese music, they're referring to stuff that are actually popular in Japan and only obscure in other country. I'd assume that happens to many different kind of "world music"... but Tony plays Japanese music that are obscure/unknown even for Japanese people!! I think that's incredible and that's why you really gotta support his show, not only for the station, but for the sake of music and its diversity, I would say! Please pledge now!

Hear that banging sound? That's the sound of FMU banging the old tin cup. It costs loads of money to run a radio station, and we really do need your help. PLEASE, PLEASE, IF YOU CAN, PLEDGE FOR STATION AND STREAM!! Gorp will love you for it!!

Guido from Cologne:

This morning I came from NJ.
Now I come from Iowa!
The unfinished pledge form is a bit annoying.
So let's make fun out of it!

I know somebody who worked with Bernie Worrell. She said he was...uh...difficult.

Tony Coulter:

Yes, I gather the new pledging system is not properly set up to take pledges from abroad -- but that there is a way around that problem. So, please do pledge without fear, overseas brothers & sisters! We love having you listen from far away places.

Tony Coulter:

You just have to select a US state. Just pick whichever one you'd like to visit!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:24pm
Guido from Cologne:

is Iowa worth visiting?
Sometimes it works without selecting an US-State, sometimes there is no way around.

I'm sure it's a fine place -- full of corn.

Haha, now I understand what you're talking about, Guido! I thanked someone from England yesterday saying he was from New Jersey. He kindly corrected us on the comment board, that was funny. Sorry for all the confusion, but be brave and help Tony and the station out!!

Mark Williams:

I'd just like to say to all listeners/readers out there that it has always been thus, that we need to band together (in this non-funded country especially) and push for the ideas we believe in. It is all well and good to love odd sounds and whatnot, but these come from a spot that is always under duress, always under the threat of being pushed aside as if its eyes and ears into this world weren't legitimate. But they are, and so... please donate!
