Hey all. Good to be here.
  9:15pm
JakeGould:

@DonJuanTijuana: There are a lot of different versions of “Popcorn” that sound 100% the same. Crazy 1970s hit cover mania.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:16pm
DonJuanTijuana:

@Jake...thanks man!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:17pm
melinda:

@Jake: that's even weirder than there being just one "Popcorn", which is already odd, in a good way.

Excited to see Wimps this Saturday. They remind me of all the things I liked about Seattle.

@JakeGould, Hot Butter had the hit -- the song was originally composed and recorded by Moog pioneer Gershon Kingsley.

Take it from a displaced SF native - it's awful. Heartbreaking to see what is happening to SF
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:09pm
Alex of Chicago:

Yeah, I grew up on Capitol Hill in Seattle. Parents and family still live there. I hear about it, but haven't experienced it personally.
  10:12pm
JakeGould:

There is a connection between S.F. real estate and the Panama Papers. TL;DR, the situation is similar to NYC where a lot of condos and properties are just there for money laundering and are not occupied. Cash deals that are so high they ruin the real estate market for real people who want/need to live there. Same B.S. as tons of NYC condos. www.48hills.org...

How appropriate. The Phillies bullpen has blown their first two games. No Tugs in that lineup.

wait, what is this now? Who's reading Casey at the bat? This dude's crazy as hell.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:16pm
efd:

It's legendary Met (and also Phillie) Tug McGraw!
  10:17pm
IFisher:

I cannot help but throw salt in that West Coast housing wound. Recently the President of the SF Federal Reserve Bank made a speech where he basically said, yeah, tough darts about the housing costs, it is a result of the strong economy - totally tone-deaf to the pain it causes for many. Now what really made this speech notable was that Clash song titles and lyrics were woven in to the text. The speech was called "The Right Profile". The mind boggles
  10:17pm
JakeGould:

Now this is schmaltz!
  10:19pm
daveB Oakland:

Wow, Tug and this dischordant ensemble are amazing.
  10:22pm
daveB Oakland:

I can't believe this is still happning
  10:23pm
JakeGould:

The record industry of the 1970s and early 1980s really just had cash to piss away.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:23pm
Alex of Chicago:

@IFisher It does. I just hope Portland, which lacks a port, avoids it. Because I'd like to move there. That said, the White Sox game finally started in Oakland. Oh, Casey.
  10:29pm
IFisher:

Wimps should write a song about the absurdity of a public official downplaying high housing costs while citing the Clash. I think I'm gonna write to the guy and point out that Strummer was famously a squatter in London
  10:34pm
JakeGould:

Elliot Easton of the Cars?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:35pm
efd:

The very same, Jake.
  10:36pm
daveB Oakland:

This reminds me of a Billy Idol song, what am I thinking of? Just that little keyboard stab in the verses.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:37pm
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Stabs actually remind me of horns in 'My Wife' by TheWho.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:40pm
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...lived in Santa Barbara, & remember 'rolling blackouts' to save energy - which turned out to be related to Enron - & - totally false...
  10:44pm
daveB Oakland:

@RevRabbit ah ... maybe that's what I was thinking of.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:46pm
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Well - that was a long time ago. Anyhow - my advice to people going to the WestCoast is always - just bring money.
  10:46pm
IFisher:

Rev Rabbit, I recall that, at the time could not believe that public officials were standing by and allowing that to happen. Oh god, I'm seeing red!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:49pm
Alex of Chicago:

One of the Heavy Times members just moved to LA. But I didn't hear an official breakup.
  11:06pm
JakeGould:

Ahhh… “Jive Talking”… Another song I associate with summer days playing Skee-Ball in Coney Island in the 1970s as a wee kid.

What an misbegotten band name. Oy.
