April 23, 2016: Special: Jan St. Werner
Whether as a member of Mouse on Mars, Microstoria or Von Sudenfed, or performing solo as Lithops, Noisemashinetapes, or himself, Jan St. Werner has been creating great music since 1992. His latest album, Felder (Fiepblatter Catalogue #4) has just been released on Thrill Jockey. Jan describes Felder (“fields” in German) as “unstable territories . . . musical situations without distinct boundaries happening simultaneously but not necessarily synced. It is possible to interpret Felder without using any of the original material. The rework can be played by a brass band or read as a story. It can also be a collaborative performance or an electronic playback piece for a radio station or a sound installation in a gallery or someone’s living room . . .”
The Inflatable Squirrel Carcass is floating somewhere above Cloud 9 as we present three hours of Felder-related material. The evening starts off with an interview with Jan, followed by Jan's reworking of sounds recorded at WFMU and its environs integrated with material from Felder, and then a number of reworkings/reactions to the WFMU/Felder piece by various DJs.

Jan St. Werner | “There is no centre in this composition, the elements must be newly brought together again and again. What was just perceived and has faded is redrawn from memory and compared to the new. | The image and after-image form a collage in the head as the actual composition.” Is this what Fiepblatter is in general?
