Hello all! Two of today's cassettes were hard to photograph in their full-package glory. The Chadbourne comes wrapped in a large sheet of paper, and "Bambina Precoce" comes in a bag with all sorts of crap, including a poster and a dried bean. You will just have to imagine what they look like complete.

Howdy, Tony and all! If any music I've purchase came with legumes, I've likely overlooked them. They might be beanstalks by now.

Now I'm here..think I'll stay around, around, around, around...hey Tony!
Avatar 12:01pm
Tony Coulter:

Heya James! I've been tempted to throw my cassette bean out as a biohazard, but it's so dry I suppose it's harmless.

Tony Coulter:

Some of the track titles for this Chadbourbe tape are hard to make out due to scribbly-writing-itis, so I'm just going to be a lazy bastard and not even attempt a blow-by-blow tracklist. You will recognize some of the songs, though, I imagine -- there are a bunch of covers.
Avatar 12:09pm
Tony Coulter:

The Chadbourne tape is the black one on the right, btw....

I can't believe there's an artist I've heard of on Tape Hiss!

Hey hey, Uncle Mikey!

You know it's been a tough year when your first reaction to hearing a few songs in a row by a favorite artist is to almost break down crying, oh NO... Thanks for the lovely tape Tony!
Avatar 12:15pm
Tony Coulter:

You're most welcome, Stepchild! Glad to see you here....

Will be playing the whole tape, as always on these Tape Hiss shows....

Tony Coulter:

Anyone here seen Chadbourne live? I've only managed to catch him once, ages and ages ago, in duet with Fred Frith. At the time they seem mismatched to me -- maybe I'd feel differently now.
Avatar 12:26pm
Tony Coulter:

"now" meaning, if I went back in time with the brain I'm stuck with currently....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:28pm
JtotheK:

you are looking at NOW now. When will now be then? Soon. We missed it. When? Just now.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:35pm
Uncle Michael:

I always confuse Chadbourne with Vic Chesnutt.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:37pm
Stepchild:

I too only had that pleasure of seeing Doc C live once, also in the dim past, in a solo set at the old Court Tavern in New Brunswick, NJ.
Avatar 12:37pm
Tony Coulter:

I confuse Rick Nelson with Rick Springfield. One of them had a garden party, and the other wore a cape, that's all I know....
Avatar 12:41pm
Tony Coulter:

That abrupt ending to side A is just the way the cassette is -- it's done in cassette verité style....
  12:41pm
Dean:

No. Rick Wakeman wore the cape.

uhhh ... Grand. That wasn't meant to be a pun. Or maybe?

Heya, Rich and Doug!!

Just found the cape-wearing Rick Springfield action figure: megomuseum.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:46pm
coelacanth:

for a second i thought "nazi punks fuck off" was "london bouncers", which somehow would've been even weirder.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:46pm
Rich in Washington:

I remember ordering some Eugene Chadbourne cassettes from the man himself and one of them had a repurposed cereal box for a cover, the other a used envelope.
Avatar 12:46pm
Tony Coulter:

Greetings, Nardo!

"Ground Ole Opry" ... I like it ... intentional or not!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:46pm
coelacanth:

Nardo, an inadvertent pun?

I mean, c'mon!

@ Dean: Well, yeah, that is rather splendiferous....

cklequ:

I bought a cassette from him at a live show once that came in a Medaglia D'oro coffee can.
Avatar 12:53pm
Tony Coulter:

Hola, cklequ! I guess he should win some sort of recycling award....
Avatar 12:54pm
northguineahills:

I bought a cassette from Eugene from a live show that was encased in a used smelly gym sock in 1997.
Avatar 12:55pm
Tony Coulter:

For realz? That's almost getting into Caroliner disgusto medical waste packaging territory. (Heya, NGH!)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:57pm
Rich in Washington:

I wish there was some kind of documentation of his cassette output, but given that he kept/keeps putting them out, I am sure it's ever-changing.
His website is a mess and hard to navigate.
And Discogs doesn't really document cassette releases as thoroughly.
Avatar 12:58pm
Tony Coulter:

Yeah, I couldn't find any trace of this cassette online. I guess people who are as prolific as him have no time to be "organized"....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:58pm
cklequ:

The coffee can i got had a sock in it too.

Yeah... and i got a sock with a Caroliner record once
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:59pm
Rich in Washington:

I've got a few Caroliner releases that now contain mildew. Not sure if it's worth retaining the integrity of the original release if it jeopardizes the rest of my collection.
Avatar 1:01pm
Tony Coulter:

I've got a Caroliner set that contains an apparently real used medical-waste bag with what look like shit stains on it. It is triple-bagged and I haven't died yet.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:02pm
Rich in Washington:

this is a great cassette!
Avatar 1:03pm
Tony Coulter:

There's some interesting interview stuff at the end of this side too...
Avatar 1:03pm
Tony Coulter:

Bugs Bunny in the white room!!
Avatar 1:14pm
Tony Coulter:

There is a dsicogs page for this tape, not that it adds anything to what I already (don't) know: www.discogs.com...
Avatar 1:24pm
Tony Coulter:

What say you? Think this is a fake comp? (Meaning, all tracks are by the same people pretending to be different groups.) That's my guess, anyhow....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:25pm

"With Insert & Objects"
Avatar 1:26pm
Tony Coulter:

Yep -- as mentioned above, one of my objects is a by-now 31-year-old bean.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 1:27pm

Either that bean's gotta get a job and pay rent or move the heck out!

Fredrik Nilsen:

Weird, I was checking Facebook when suddenly I fell asleep and woke up listening to this show! How did that happen???
  1:40pm
Dean:

There was evidently a Boz Lapinski in Italy's Cheetah Chrome Motherfuckers. Same person? This tape falls near the last couple years of the band's career.
Avatar 1:42pm
Tony Coulter:

Hey, Fredrik!!
Avatar 1:43pm
Tony Coulter:

@ Dean: Could be the same person, I guess -- though on this tape it's Boz & Lapinski. Who knows!!
  1:43pm
Fredrik Nilsen:

Hey TC!
Avatar 1:43pm
Cecile:

hey tony!
Avatar 1:49pm
Cecile:

I can see someone sampling this and making something even crazier.
  1:50pm
Dean:

This is likely the person who went by Zedo & Wz: https://firenze.academia.edu/TommasoTozzi
Avatar 1:52pm
Tony Coulter:

@ Dean: Yes -- he's the publisher of the zine "Bambina Precoce." My suspicion is that he's the guy behind these tracks as well.
Avatar 1:53pm
Tony Coulter:

"Bambina Precoce" was mostly a visual arts zine....
Avatar 1:58pm
Tony Coulter:

I suspect that because Tozzi is also a musician -- but who knows!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:58pm
JtotheK:

Augh...I'm going to miss the last tape, meeting related. Thanks for the show today, Tony!

you know, Tom Verlaine's real name is Tom Miller. I hear a slight similarity in the vocals. But Verlaine wouldn't let something like this even leave his brain.
Avatar 2:02pm
Tony Coulter:

@ JtotheK: Yes, it's your participation award.
Avatar 2:06pm
Tony Coulter:

@ Cecile: This guy is Tom S. Miller -- and he was definitely from New Jersey (his home address and phone number are on the tape -- I blocked them out in the photo for privacy reasons)
Avatar 2:07pm
Tony Coulter:

I have not tried to contact him, though....
Avatar 2:08pm
Cecile:

thanks, Tony.
This song is actually kind of pretty in a weird way.
Avatar 2:08pm
Cecile:

yeah, that might not be a rock you want to turn over...
Avatar 2:21pm
Tony Coulter:

If memory serves, there was someone who was on FMU briefly named Tom Miller -- wonder if it could have been this guy.
Avatar 2:22pm
Tony Coulter:

That was in the early '90s....
  2:29pm
MrFab:

Jandek's saying "Man, what is the deal with THIS guy?!"

Where did you get this tape, Tony? Is it available anywhere?
Avatar 2:31pm
Tony Coulter:

Heya. MrFab!!

Got it in a big ol' batch of random tapes. As far as I know it is not available anywhere.
Avatar 2:33pm
Tony Coulter:

Someone should release it, though. I believe there would be a tiny market for it....
Avatar 2:35pm
Cecile:

it sounds like little bits that fell off a Todd Tammanend Clark song.
Avatar 2:35pm
Tony Coulter:

Oops -- sorry the tracklist has been going a bit haywire. Everything is now under control.....
  2:40pm
Fredrik Nilsen:

This sounds like some of the stuff people would send to the LAFMS in the early 80's when we were doing cassette compilations. Really, really wack and oddly appealing.
Avatar 2:44pm
Tony Coulter:

@ Fredrik: Yes, I can imagine you would have attracted all sorts of bedroom-recording lunatics. Did you save those tapes?!?
Avatar 2:47pm

Here's that tape hiss I promised you....
