By Jeebus, I might actually be able to listen in uninterrupted today!
Avatar 11:59am
Tony Coulter:

Hey ho, Rich! The German Shepherds will be glad to have your undivided attention.

Hola, James!

I warn you, though: these German Shepherds are not too cuddly.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:03pm
Rich in Washington:

I know so little about The German Shepherds outside of their Music for Sick Queers LP. I've loved that record for a long time but never tracked down anything else, other than the I Adore You single.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 12:08pm
listener james from westwood:

I'll take care not to look them dead in the eyes!

Mayuko:

Hello!!!!!!!
Avatar 12:09pm
Tony Coulter:

@ Rich: There isn't much else as far as official releases go, other then another single and the "Explore the Freedom of Total Control Tape."

They are def big faves of mine....
Avatar 12:09pm
Tony Coulter:

Hey there, Mayuko!!!
Avatar 12:12pm
Tony Coulter:

@ Rich: They do have a whole bunch of comp tracks, though.
Avatar 12:14pm
Tony Coulter:

Free trip to the moon for anyone who can ID the LP underneath today's tapes. Big hint: the group is from Portland.
Avatar 12:17pm
Tony Coulter:

Half the audience seems to be yakking away non-stop. What better place to hook up than a German Shepherds concert?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:20pm
Doug Schulkind:

Are you saying half the audience would be shepherding non-stop at a Yak concert, Tony?
Avatar 12:20pm
Tony Coulter:

Exactly!! (Heya, Doug!)
  12:22pm
MrFab:

Yay German Shepherds! These lyrics were transcribed verbatim from an old Cold War scare album.
Avatar 12:24pm
Tony Coulter:

Really? Interesting!! (Hola, MrFab!)
Avatar 12:28pm

I just heard about the Afrika Bambaataa allegations, this song might be sadly appropriate:

Greets, Cecile!

Well, here's that ol' Booty Jones again.....
Avatar 12:30pm
Carmichael:

Heya Tony and dog/yak lovers.
Avatar 12:30pm
Tony Coulter:

Ahoy, Carmichael!
Avatar 12:35pm
Tony Coulter:

As I said (on mic), this tape doesn't have a tracklist. I don't recognize the track on now -- think it may only appear here.
Avatar 12:37pm
Tony Coulter:

Though, of course, perhaps my memory is failing me. If you recognize it, do pipe up!
Avatar 12:38pm
Tony Coulter:

In the meantime, why not agree to call it, "He's Anal."
Avatar 12:39pm
Carmichael:

I found this on Ancestry, one of the founders: Stephen J Scheatzle

Born on 9 Feb 1952 to Edgar Scheatzle and Dorothy. He passed away on 2 May 1992 in San Francisco, California, USA.
Avatar 12:42pm
Tony Coulter:

Thanks, Carmichael. They created false biographies for themselves (such as the claim that one was arrested for child molestation), but, sadly, I guess that obit could be real.
Avatar 12:43pm
Tony Coulter:

The Jodie in question here is Jodie Foster. I believe this is a setting of John Hinckley Jr.'s letter to her.
  12:46pm
MrFab:

These guys were better than Throbbing Gristle. There, i said it!
Avatar 12:46pm
Carmichael:

Here's a more thorough article: nathannothinsez.blogspot.com...

Sorry about being the buzzkill ...
Avatar 12:48pm
Cecile:

everything of theirs I've heard has been intense and thought-provoking.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 12:49pm
listener james from westwood:

Yech, awful Bambaata news.
Avatar 12:49pm
Tony Coulter:

I'm guessing that Zappa/Mothers cover will never be released, for copyright reasons.....
Avatar 12:52pm
Tony Coulter:

This is an alternate version of "THC," sans lyrics....
Avatar 12:54pm
Tony Coulter:

Thanks for the link, Carmichael. Will peruse post-show....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:55pm
cklequ:

I never even heard of these guys before today. This is great stuff.
Avatar 12:57pm
Cecile:

These guys were a favorite of some CBN DJs in the 80s. I remember maybe one song from back in the day.

But it's kind of great hearing everything today.
Avatar 12:57pm
Tony Coulter:

Hey there, cklequ! Glad you're enjoying the tape....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:03pm
Rich in Washington:

I had that song by them Armageddon Man on a tape from the radio show for many, many years and when I bought the LP was surprised the rest of their stuff was nothing like that track.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:05pm
Rich in Washington:

a radio show. Not THE radio show.
Avatar 1:06pm
Tony Coulter:

Yeah, "Armageddon Man" has "rockin' guitar," doesn't it? Not normally their thing!
Avatar 1:13pm
Tony Coulter:

So, as I mentioned, this tape was sent to me by a friend of the German Shepherds. Sadly, I no longer remember who he was, and if I still have his letter I've completely misplaced it. My "files" (ha!) are just a bunch of totally disorganized cardboard boxes full of random, crumpled crap.
Avatar 1:21pm
Tony Coulter:

But, well, thanks for the tape, unknown person....
Avatar 1:26pm
Tony Coulter:

"J.J." is, of course, Jim Jones....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:28pm
Rich in Washington:

JJ recordings are more horrific than anything any 80s industrial band could come up with. No wonder so many released these without nearly any accompaniment.
Avatar 1:39pm
Tony Coulter:

A lot of that Manson/Jim Jones '80s industrial/death culture stuff seems pretty tired by now -- but to me the German Shepherds' brand of creepiness really holds up.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:45pm
cklequ:

Do you have any plans to replay any of your former tape hiss shows anytime soon (or not so soon)? I know you do this on occasion.... If so, can i make a request?
  1:46pm
MrFab:

Totally agree tony, and you can throw in the Nazi and/or S&M tropes. Suicide, like these doggies, also hold up well thanks to their avoidance of cliches.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 1:46pm
listener james from westwood:

Mxyzptlk? Weirdly, it's pronounced MIX-yez-pit-lik. Superman villain.
Avatar 1:48pm
Tony Coulter:

@ cklequ: Sure, I will eventually do a Tape Hiss replay. Request away....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:51pm
cklequ:

www.wfmu.org... .....
Loved that one. And not just because of that mind blowing Jad Fair Track (I'm too cheap to drop 25 bucks on the only copy available on discogs)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:54pm
JtotheK:

good afternoon everyone.
Avatar 1:54pm
Tony Coulter:

@ cklequ: Sure, that show is a good candidate for resurrection, as it aired a long time ago. Will keep it in mind....
Avatar 1:54pm
Tony Coulter:

Hey ho, JtotheK!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:55pm
cklequ:

Thank you!
Avatar 1:57pm
Cecile:

listener james, I was just going to say that
Avatar 2:00pm
Tony Coulter:

@ James: Aha! Makes sense now....
Avatar 2:06pm
Tony Coulter:

So, is anyone familiar with any of these German bands? Had never heard of any of them before getting this tape last year.
Avatar 2:18pm
Carmichael:

On iTunes, Die Ruttler is listed under Romanian Pop Rock: music.okihika.com...
Avatar 2:21pm
Tony Coulter:

Sorry for the playlist confusion during side A -- took me a while to get the hang of their wacky Germanic track-title system.

Sorry also for not saying the name of Superman's arch villain correctly yet again -- perhaps his name is better left unsaid.
Avatar 2:23pm
Tony Coulter:

@ Carmichael: That seems unlikely to be right -- unless it's a different outfit. But who knows....
Avatar 2:29pm
Tony Coulter:

What's confusing about this tape's tracklist is that it includes the names of the True Love Tapes releases the tracks are from, in rather cryptic fashion -- but I've got it all sorted out now. (You'd think I would have sorted it out before playing the tape, but no....)
Avatar 2:35pm
Tony Coulter:

Actually, my copy of the tape is missing the tracklist -- I'm cribbing from the discogs page here: www.discogs.com...
Avatar 2:41pm
Tony Coulter:

So, Discogs tells me that most of these bands put out cassette albums -- in some cases, quite a few.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:51pm
Rich in Washington:

Thanks, Tony!

Thanks for the fine Tape Hiss, Tony!

For some reason, I thought the show's over. I am about 4 minutes in the future.
Avatar 2:56pm
Tony Coulter:

Well, I did say goodbye -- because I ain't coming back on mic. But please to enjoy the Crap Detectors....
Avatar 2:57pm
Tony Coulter:

Now I'm done for realz -- see you next week, everybody!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:14pm

Looks like I missed a good one Tony! I have an original copy of MFSQ and I find it more disturbing then when I originally bought it.
