A viking ship appears on the horizon, a likeness of Alice Coltrane carved into its bow. Rare birds flock together to sing Francoise Hardy as soul hits. A sunset of blips and bleeps fills the air.

Brian, along with parts of Biscay Bay, Inchon, Korea (part of the genius of Douglas MacArthur's landing there during the Korean Conflict was that nobody ever considered defending against that, deeming it impossible), the Bay of Fundy has 50 foot+ tides, at the head of the Bay. Where I live it is ~28 feet median.

Glad you still have all your extremities intact.

I am voting "Yes" on whatever proposition this Hourglass track is associated with.

@Fred Saw a doc about dance on BBC4 the other week when De Keersmaeker said she found out about Beyonce using her dance so instead of taking the legal route released an instructional video showing people how to dance it. The result was squillions of girls making their own versions and posting them online, so it had a strange new lease of life.

I really need an all sitar show on this station. This is the closest to the dream. I may get.

@franny: You have my vote.

This is kind of the age of sitar...not really albums. Or mp3s.

Are there any non-commercial by that I mean advertising-free TV stations in the US?

@Brian UK, is there anything commercial free in the US?

Trouble:

merci, brian in UK. re: TV> we have public stations like PBS but you will see ads to underwrite the shows. not during the prgrams but at the end or beginning, yes. WKCR out of columbia university does a raga show on sunday nights. they stream so you can tune them in all over the world.

@franny Try digging through his archives too, franny. I'm pretty sure he's done it more than a few times.

Mike East:

@Brian - Public Television advertises for itself and its corporate underwriters, but that's it. Other than that, it would be the premium channels (HBO, Showtime, etc) that don't have commercials, but cost extra money.

@Brian there is also public access or cable access which generally has local community oriented/produced programming. Like city council meetings or shows by the weird person down the street from hosting a call-in shows to talking about conspiracies or the power pf prayer or whatever they can think of that they just need to put out there.

Adrian in UK I like that story. a way more creative response than litigiousness

@Michael98145 Thanks will check it later.

@Fred a bit confused did you mean UK? If so YES, THE BBC, THAT THIS PRESENT GOVERNMENT IS TRYING TO WASTE AS IT IS IN LEAGUE WITH JERRY JAGGER'S NEW AMOUR. OH SORRY SHE WAS NEVER MARRIED TO JAGGER.

This article is interesting about Eno and Anne De Keersmaeker and their collaboration. www.theguardian.com...

Ike:

@Brian in UK, people are mentioning PBS but the missing context is that compared to other state-funded broadcasters, PBS is incredibly anemic and has virtually no original comedy or drama programming of its own, just recycled BBC stuff mostly. It's also known for children's shows like Sesame Street (cheaper to produce, I'd wager) but now the first-runs of that have gone over to HBO.

Thanks for the feedback. From a quick look, not a great deal. PBS seems to get a bad press on this station.

@Ike: Newt Gingrich & crew gutted PBS in the 90s under Clinton.

PBS is not that great anymore. Very whitbread. NPR as well. Whitbread nonsense.
