Familiar & forgotten gems from 50-plus years of music on the darker side, shoegaze, synthpop, goth, psychedelia, darkwave, with unapologetic detours into 70s pop. In a dark night of the soul, it's always 3 o'clock in the morning.

One of my favorite Cure songs
Avatar 🦇 12:14am
Julie:

everyone I know (well, almost) went to the Cure in the past three nights.
  12:16am
Cliff (moving to Prague!):

And how many you know went to Billy Joel?
Avatar 🦇 12:17am
Julie:

no one who admits it. Honestly I DO want to see Billy, I never have. But I have to be REALLY into someone to go to MSG.
  12:19am
Cliff (moving to Prague!):

Oh I'd have gone to (to either show), if I wasn't a 4-1/2 hour drive away
Avatar 🦇 12:21am
Julie:

I enjoy The Cure, but I'd rather go see the smaller goth bands in smaller clubs. MSG was good for The Who.

Driving from VT to St Louis. 100 miles outside of Buffalo. Thanks for the company.
Avatar 🦇 12:23am

Ah gotta love a road trip
  12:27am
JakeGould:

I honestly cannot get into seeing bands I like at (1) huge arenas and (2) on essentially nostalgia tours decades after their peak. Like when the Jesus and Mary Chain were doing that “Psychocandy” tour? I was on the fence about and decided I just didn’t want to see them. Would rather go to Market Hotel or Baby‘s Alright to see new bands I like.

Hey! Kate Bush is the driver's favorite. How did you know?

I jumped on Lush tix though.

Dave this isn't Kate! But she's coming up later
  12:29am

I would say “Lush” and “Ride” are unique exceptions. So hey.

I endured terminal 5 for...mazzy star...my bloody valentine. And Lush (and seeing them at Bburg too)

I think Ken's got all the bases covered here -- dark, nightly, and soulful!

yeah I don't have on a lot of male artists, they really have to have a special quality to them. Ken is really moving.

When I saw him live he played guitar as well, he didn't bring it that day (he didn't have his drummer either)

Oh yeah, solstice! Just read that there's also a strawberry moon, which I'm sure someone someone has used as the name for a psychedelic band.

Avatar 🦇 2:37am

I decided actually playing Pink moon was too on the nose, but some Nick seemed a nice idea
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:41am
mariano:

Good call, it was on the nose but not too on the nose! That expression though -- never fails to make me think of that scene in a Simpsons episode where Maggie loses a pink elephant balloon. Then it cuts to a boardroom, and a group of men, and one of them says "We need a symbol that says we're both gay and Republican." Maggie's balloon floats in through the window, and they all stare at it. Finally one of them says "A little too on the nose, wouldn't you say?"
