That's weird. I was just thinking of The The, and now here's a cover. Was it because of Ultimate Painting? Is that why I like Ultimate Painting?

Oh No!!! I'm against Uncertain Smile being covered.

P, I agree it's a weird cover, I first heard Bowie vocally, and then.... Peter Frampton???? But it's a great song.
Evan, you are already started, for sure. And now here you go with Gary Numan. Good night for me to tune in. Is it too much to ask for..... you know who. Everybody knows how good Cale is for you.

Chapman & Chinn were great, but I still haven't forgiven Mike Chapman for ruining Nervus Rex.

Uncle Michael:

I hate myself for thinking I was too cool for AC/DC when I was young. I was such a dumbass.
Avatar 10:18pm

but i love "The God Sheila". When I wrote some essays about individual song, that Nervus Rex song was the first one.

and i never saw Nervus Rex, so i didn't know the ruination Chapman put them on. i know people said that, though
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:20pm

oh, their songs were still great but I hated the way their LP turned out after having seen them live a bunch of times. And I'm a Chapman/Chinn fan, too, I just didn't think it worked in that case.

is there a disc 2 to that "black america sings the beatles" comp? - because "disc 1" does not have Wilson Pickett's hey jude, but i can't find a "disc 2".
...they wouldn't consider not putting it on there, would they?!
  10:38pm
Julie M Brooklyn:

Now I hear The The again with this Dark Blue.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:39pm
efd:

nope, no disc 2. Maybe there will be a part 2 release later... and/or maybe that wasn't licenseable.
  10:39pm
Bilbo:

This Dark Blue somewhat reminiscent of Suede.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:39pm
efd:

yes, I was just thinking that too Julie!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:40pm
Uncle Michael:

That comp concept has been done numerous times before. The Wilson Picket was on this one: www.discogs.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:42pm
coelacanth:

amazon says:"disc 1" and the label site says:"side 1", so -maybe there's another volume coming.
...i'm hugely into the beatles (though much more discerning than i once was) and that "hey jude" is easily better than the original - or any other.
that's a big thing for me!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:45pm
coelacanth:

ah i see, Uncle M. well at least the new one includes the exquisite musical stylings of Sir George Harrison.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:46pm

Avatar 10:50pm

i've heard enough hey jude (though i'm also, like coelanthe, hugely into the beatles), but i admire the looooooooooooong coda. if it wasn't the beatles, the record company would have cut three minutes out of it.
Avatar 10:52pm
Scraps:

(i mean, before releasing it as a single)
Avatar 10:55pm
Scraps:

tuff darts is sometimes labeled a new wave band, for the new york late 70s they came out of. but they are strictly a power pop band to me
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:55pm
Gaylord Fields:

@Scraps: As a young Beatlemaniac, I didn't really get "Hey Jude" and considered it one of my least favorite Fab Four songs. I've since matured enough to savor its majesty. (And because I avoided it strenuously when I was younger, it hasn't worn out its welcome now that I love it.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:55pm
coelacanth:

hey jude is one of the few songs that i always skip when i listen to a beatles album; but still i cannot deny that it was a pop masterpiece at the time.

i rarely seek out any particular beatles song. it's more like "i need therapy. i'm going to listen to lots of beatles for a few days." and i nearly always listen to albums - usually skipping several of the Paul songs and all of the Ringo songs!

you probably like several paul songs less that i. i really like "hello goodbye", for instance. nobody like song that as much as i do....

Oh! you're right! that's why i like it so much! (no offense to Tommy Roe)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:31pm

@Fuzzy: "Dizzy" is second to my top pick, "It's Now Winter's Day" for me. "Jam Up, Jelly Tight" would be my third place.
Avatar 11:32pm
Scraps:

Tommy James should be in the r&r hall of fame (if it matters, which it don't)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:33pm

@Gaylord: "Sweet Pea" is my second TR pick. "Hanky Panky" is my favorite TJ because it's fun and easy to play on the guitar.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:34pm

i guess i know very little Tommy Roe...but i'll go with jam up jelly tight. (out of maybe 4-5 TR songs i know?)

"Jam Up, Jelly Tight" is a very strong pick.

Bilbo:

This Shana Falana track is freakin' rad.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:36pm

it would've been much easier if draggin' the line was Tommy Roe. the Tommy James catalogue has some gems in my world..."sweet cherry wine" being way up there.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:36pm
Gaylord Fields:

Tommy Roe and Tommy James (and David Bowie, for that matter) made really good records in a variety of styles, with no drop in quality.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:41pm
coelacanth:

- and Tommy James composed "tighter, tighter", though the alive n kickin' version is the definitive one.
.....i guess i should brush up on my Tommy Roe. i never considered he did anything but bubblegum.

@coelacanth: Tommy Roe's "It's Now Winter's Day" and "Phantasy" LP's are lite-psych pop with sunshine-ish leanings. "Winter's Day" is the more cohesive statement and a good place to start for non-bubblegum Roe.
