We went to see Roxy Music at the Academy of Music on 14th Street back in the day. Mr. Ferry looked so elegant in his white suit!

Huh, a good track from Never Let Me Down. Maybe I was misled 3o years ago by Day In, Day Out. (Late 80s production doesn't really help it.)

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:27pm
efd:

happy to have you, chris!

PJ, I've found there are good songs buried on many of the Bowie albums I overlooked at the time...
  11:37pm
PJ:

I picked up a box set of Bowie CDs from the 90s and early 00s, each with an extra disc of bonus tracks, at a stoop sale sometime in the mid-00s, listened to them all a couple of times and couldn't find anything that really spoke to me. I went back after his death and listened to them again, and did find at least a couple of good songs on each set, but the overall impression was still not that impressive. But Lazarus was really good, I'm glad he went out on a high note, as it were. (I think it helped that it was only 7 songs, instead of, say, 19.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:38pm
coelacanth:

PJ, by 1984 i'd lost all interest in Bowie. i read an interview with him c.2008 which restored respect for him but still bored by the music, which was what i heard on the rare occasion i heard commercial radio.
then on his birthday last year Daniel Blumin played "lazarus" and i thought, "hmm maybe i shouldn't have ignored Bowie all this time."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:41pm
coelacanth:

there are about 5 albums between '84 and '16 that i've gotten into since then. (not including lazarus, which is perfectly Stellar)

By the second chord I decided that this Proper Ornaments track was ok with me.
