This is where all of culture and all of time are collapsed into one seductive portal and viewed through the panoramic lens of the exotic. Come and embark on an armchair-travel virtual-voyage to the heart of timeless darkness and beyond; embrace the numinous monolith of the exotic immensity. Let us find that place where hybridization meets its destiny as pure fantasy. Let us become observers observing those others who are ourselves. You wear your mask and I'll wear mine.

For me it was much more about them being.... white. I dismissed SO much essential music for that very misguided reason. The last 35 years of my life has been an extended project trying to undo the damage of that youthful small-mindedness.

Big love and respect for understanding the drummer some reference!
@Flash Strap
I don't think I would find myself saying that Jaki was the greatest drummer ever, but I will aver right here and now at top voice: No one ever made a tom-tom sound better.

Other bands that really do it for me that are basic figures of the scene are Neu!, Harmonia, Cluster, Moebius & Plank
There's so much though!

it just is obvious that so often they really didn't listen to what they're dissing; or they have an agenda based on their disappointed expectations.
...sometimes i think the trash rag (ie rolling stone) has assigned someone to review something by someone the reviewer just doesn't like.

anyone feel a kind of Buddy Miles /Band of Gypsies vibe? the insistent drum roll style reminds me of him.

(Mitch Mitchell, on the other hand, was on the kit what Jimi was with a guitar.)

that said, the best stuff with Experience is some of the best stuff there is... though the same can be said of Gypsies. I don't think he could have pulled off Machine gun in the same way with Mitchell?

...also, my favorite tracks with Mitchell are not necessarily "the experience". his blues tracks that were never released during Jimi's lifetime show both Jimi and Mitch at their best. they spoke their own language and played textue, while the bassist (preferably Billy Cox - also not the experience) held it together.
