Happy to be live with the avant ghetto dwellers tonight (at least for a bit). Thanks for the music, Jeff!

What album is this from?
  12:42am
Erik in Michigan:

I believe this is from a live recording - no official release
Avatar 12:42am
Jeff Conklin:

@Jay: This is a live version from '73. Technically never laid down in the studio, first appeared on Europe 72

re big Bucks, I've already sent in my pre-marathon pledge. wfmu can now raise all the djs' salaries (except for those capitalist 6-9am m-f djs)

How's the rest of this comp?
Avatar 1:37am

What up, Brent

@Jen: The highs are really high, the lows are abyssmal. The former outnumbers the latter fortunately

I''ve been playing a lot of Dead boots lately. Downloaded some faves before the band shut off downloading at the Internet Archive. My personal cut-off is around '74.
Avatar 1:50am
Jeff Conklin:

@Pacific: Nice! I came into 500 tapes from a taper/trader a couple weeks back. I used to be a 69-74 snob but I've gotten way more into 80s and 90s the last few years. Acquired taste
Avatar 1:50am
Jennifer_PNW:

@simon: when did the band shut down downloading at the Internet Archive?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:50am
pacific standard simon:

Probably the same cut-off for a lot of stuff, including John McLaughlin and Amon Duul II. :-)
Avatar 1:53am
Jeff Conklin:

You can no longer (easily) download soundboard recordings from the Archive. Audience recordings are still allowable to be downloaded.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:53am
pacific standard simon:

@Jennifer_PNW - Gee, I don't remember exactly. Must have been more than five but less than ten years ago.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:55am
pacific standard simon:

Ah yes, I was never a big fan of audience recordings...
Avatar 1:56am
Jennifer_PNW:

@Simon: That's not very Dead-like
Avatar 1:57am
Fox (Rā-chul):

Halloo. I've been listening since the Grateful Dead, but I had a cat on my lap so I couldn't pop online and say hello unti now.

Hello!
Avatar 1:59am
Jennifer_PNW:

@Fox: Welcome. I'm usually in the same predicament.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:00am
pacific standard simon:

@Jennifer_PNW - Depends. The audience recordings got very good in later years, but were terrible in the early years, and I still am pretty much a "69-74 snob", as Jeff puts it.
  2:03am
dave from outside Ryley Walker:

Another ridiculously great show here, Jeff. And thanks for the Fall 73 Dead, NICE to hear. You're so right about Weir.
Btw, plenty of soundboards still out there for the downloading guys, you just gotta look around.
Avatar 2:04am
Jennifer_PNW:

@Simon : Me too. I'm warming up though. Jeff recommended a show the other day, 3/28/86 (set II), that made me reconsider my snobbery.

"Winchester Cathedraaal, you're bringing me dooown..."

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:15am

My all-time favorite Dead show is the benefit they did for Ken Kesey's brother's dairy farm. '73 or '74, I forget. I grew up listening to Dead live shows on KSAN San Francisco.

That's 8/27/72

Post-Skip Spence Moby Grape is a thing I've been getting into lately.

i look forward to this show so much every weekend, late Sunday nights used to be more of a musical bummer on the radio, but now they are special. The only bummer is that three hours fly by too fast when you're having fun.

TheNinthChild:

Moby Grape! So Fucking great Jeff, Thanks!
  2:46am
dave from outside Ryley Walker:

@simon & @jennifer: I'll put up with Donna to get Keith. I love how 77-79 just disappeared in the snob/not snob distinction. Nothing much there, true
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:49am

"put up with" is pretty much my attitude, too.
