A viking ship appears on the horizon, a likeness of Alice Coltrane carved into its bow. Rare birds flock together to sing Francoise Hardy as soul hits. A sunset of blips and bleeps fills the air.

Both of our senators in New Jersey voted against Sen. Sanders' drug pricing amendment. As much as Sen. Booker can be on the right side of things, he also has a troubling history w/r/t financial regulation and reigning in Big Pharma. ... For the last couple of months I've been getting calls on my cell phone from a Scientology Center in Los Angeles. Every fifth or sixth call, I answer by exclaiming, "I HAVE NO MONEY! FORGIVE ME, LORD XENU!" or something like that, and then hang up. I do this in a hallway at my job and hope that, through these outbursts, I am cultivating the reputation of office freakshow.

"No Call" registries are a joke. They mostly just block you from someone explicitly contacting that exact number. But there is nothing stopping anyone for sequentially dialing numbers in an area code or region.

Most call centers for scams start dialing (for example) from 212-555-0001 to 212-555-9999. That is why robocalls and semi-automated calls still exist. Loopholes!

Yeah, seems like the Republicans always win at framing the conversation. That's how they won the 2nd Amendment debate, they always talked about right to bare arms. People on our side never succeeded in bringing up the rest of the amendment: "well regulated militia."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:31am
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Yes - essentially their argument for Gun Deregulation devolves to the Constitutional Right to own weapons to challenge the Government - any kind of weapon @ all - & only if they were 'well-regulated' (...Not). That's if you interpreted it that way, rather than the U.S. has a Right to the Armed Forces. Which is - completely different. All the Gun nonsense that makes us different from the entire rest of the developed world is based on no more that this.
Of course - it would all only be to defend a Government that (even more fundamentally) Constitutionally "promotes the General Welfare" - I can only presume...

Finishing "Bring Up the Bodies" by Hilary Mantel. I am not one for historical fiction, but it's so good.

hey thanks SO MUCH for the heads up on HR 610! Unfortunately, our cretin representative in district 19 John faso won't hold town halls or even pick up his phone!! We have been petitioning him and this Fri. at noon we'll be gathering in numbers at his Kingston, NY office. Then at 6, we're holding a mock town hall. If any listeners are in Ulster, Orange, or Sullivan Counties feel the Bern, they should come out too! Thanks T

@Priscilla: Me neither, especially historical fiction about a Cromwell (yuck). However, Mantel's "Wolf Hall" trilogy is fantastic!
@Trouble: Thank you!
