Hi gang. This Palmer always makes me think of the Broadway dance piece "Contact", where it was used for a number in the second act.

P-90, thanks! Chris, I believe that noise is called "schwing" and I'm now realizing that Palmer's song is probably where Mike Myers got that word from...

How does Eagles solo material figure into this genre? "The H is O," "All She Wants to Do Is Dance"?

you are my sunshine-------follow the bouncing ball with mitch miller and my grandma
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:13am
Amanda:

@Nate, glad you asked. Just because someone IS a megalomaniac doesn't automatically qualify them as a megalomaniac-pop artist. I'd say "All She Wants to Do Is Dance" is close.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:15am
Nate K.:

OK, good to know. How about "King of Wishful Thinking" by Go West? Or am I drifting off base?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:15am
Amanda:

But Don Henley and Lou Gramm, etc. solo songs of that era often fall into another category I like to call "divorce rock."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:16am
Little Danny:

one of the great rock 'n' roll couples, these two
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:16am

That this conversation is currently being soundtracked by the MC5 and Dead Moon is appropriately freeform.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:17am
Nate K.:

"Midnight Blue" is a great song.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:17am
Amanda:

King of Wishful Thinking (which I love btw) feels like an excellent late-arriving exemplar. Don't worry, we will all figure this out together.

I saw the MC5 as an opening act. I'd like to say i forgot who the headliner was but it was Boz Scaggs

"Four of Us" -- such a great album. As a kid, I bought it and "Real Live" together. Played the shit out of them.

Avatar 10:51am
SpamPrince:

My only beef with Columbo is it’s never a ‘mystery’- they give away how it’s done in first sequence and the rest is about Falk giving the rich arrogant criminals their comeuppance- which is enjoyable. I have been watching Hunter lately on the Heroes & Icons channel so not really one to throw stones-
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:55am
Amanda:

@SpamPrince- Heroes & Icons, nice! I contend that the "mystery" in Columbo is HOW he will figure it out.
  11:00am
P-90:

Yes, the "gimmick" is that the audience knows "whodunnits" and the fun is watching Columbo torture the killer who thinks he's so smart as he breaks down the case. I've become quite a Heroes & Icons fan lately. And the Decades Network "Kung Fu" weekend binge was a blast!
Avatar 11:01am
SpamPrince:

True - & it’s all the more needling coming from the unwashed gruff little schmuck they underestimated. It’s really about income inequality – Great show Amanda! - Josh

Groovy! A Mickey "fave"!
Avatar 11:06am
KP:

And I caught Dolenz recently at 54 Below. Second time.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:07am
Amanda:

I recently started watching the '90s-era Columbo revival episodes... of course they aren't as good, but enough time has gone by that they have significant camp value and Falk is amazing at any age.

@KP, so jealous! I have to do that sometime, I have had it recommended to me several times.

Almost choked to death on the animation of Homer leaping out of Moe's car, then rolling back into it. On par w/ Homer being thrown out of the burning house, then bouncing back in, in "Homer the Heretic."
