This is where all of culture and all of time are collapsed into one seductive portal and viewed through the panoramic lens of the exotic. Come and embark on an armchair-travel virtual-voyage to the heart of timeless darkness and beyond; embrace the numinous monolith of the exotic immensity. Let us find that place where hybridization meets its destiny as pure fantasy. Let us become observers observing those others who are ourselves. You wear your mask and I'll wear mine.

Looks like an interesting set of albums...

Hi Doc and welcome

they are pretty interesting
Avatar 7:02pm

more Decerf in the works for this evening
Avatar 7:03pm
Flash Strap:

obviously, tonight I'll mostly play Auvidis LPs, but there's an overlap with Chicago 2000 that I'll explain in a bit, so we'll hear a little Chicago 2000 stuff in this first set

I always found it frustratingly hard to find many library records, and only half of the ones I found were actually any good.
Avatar 7:08pm
Flash Strap:

pretty mondo art on this one as well: img.discogs.com...

doctorjazz:

Decerf is another name that rings NO bells with me (I say that a lot on this particular chat board, hmmm)
Avatar 7:11pm
Flash Strap:

Hi NGH! even my favorite library records usually aren't "good" as albums. it's a real genre for mining
Avatar 7:12pm
Flash Strap:

@doc: I played a bunch of stuff by him last week, which is why i make a special point to mention him tonight
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:15pm
doctorjazz:

Yup, and that's as much as I've heard of him. Interesting stuff, though...

JtotheK:

Hi Flash, hello Explorers! (I'm sitting quietly in the corner obeying the library rules - don't want to get 'shushed'!)
Avatar 7:18pm
Flash Strap:

in the final analysis, i think he's a pretty minor/medium figure even by library standards, but I've always had a love for his stuff, the best of which is just insanely cool
Avatar 7:20pm
Flash Strap:

no shushing in this library, J–K! hiya pal

hi Melinda! Hi Danny!
Avatar 8:05pm
Flash Strap:

so, this is one of those that was originally published by Chicago 2000, in 1978. put out again by Auvidis in '79. original cover: img.discogs.com...
Avatar 8:08pm
Flash Strap:

get ready for this next one, it's a doozy
Avatar 8:11pm
hyde:

btw, i let this go before and you know this stuff way better'n me, but still my conscience compels me to say: J.P. DeCerf? a minor/medium figure? Bah!
Avatar 8:13pm
Flash Strap:

not to denigrate in the slightest! just that, compared to Hawkshaw or something, who has like ten thousand releases, he's not a giant, and that it's entirely possible you could be into aspects of library music in a pretty big way and not know decerf super well
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 8:15pm
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Hey! I might drink too much Merlot - or these way kewl trax. Or - Both.
Avatar 8:18pm
hyde:

heh, confession: i mostly just wanted to say bah!, because it's so satisfying.

i find library music like Borges' library, so it's nice to find a cornerstone like DeCerf. building a hierarchy of this stuff seems like a fool's errand. of course it might be that those are the best errands.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:23pm
Little Danny:

This Open Air stuff is revelatory! REALLY digging it.
Avatar 8:24pm
Flash Strap:

@Hyde: honestly, the big library heads are way beyond me, i am just a grasshopper, i basically have to guess and extrapolate a lot to seem like I know what I'm doing.
Avatar 8:25pm
quinn:

ah. so glad to be here.
Avatar 8:26pm
Flash Strap:

Hi RevRab! Glad to have you and your merlot on board

I feel the same way, Danny. I actually just got ahold of this LP after only hearing parts of it, so it's still new to me. some Bowie vibes, sort of. with like, Uriah Heep vibes too
Avatar 8:26pm
Flash Strap:

Hi Quinn! extremely glad you are

My computer is broken and I miss the visuals I usually get with this show. At least I still have Internet access.
Avatar 8:28pm

Melinda, I feel your pain and pray for your computer's swift recovery or painless replacement
Avatar 8:29pm
Flash Strap:

god, this is so passionate and human when taken in the library context
Avatar 8:29pm
hyde:

@melinda what Flash said. computers are the worst.
  8:31pm
melinda:

Thanks Flash. Actually being without has eliminated some distractions and prompted me to get more stuff done and spend more time outside. The real trick will be to keep that going once I have access again.
Avatar 8:32pm
Flash Strap:

that is the trick indeed. i had some really great weeks without internet this spring and i sort of miss being deprived

@hyde: Were you checking Hearty's show previous - or are we referencing Borge's Library in adjacent timeslots independently?...
Avatar 8:34pm

"Jumping Squirrel" - there's a great title
Avatar 8:36pm

@RevRab ha, no--did not check that show. references must have concurrently come from the ether.

...@ which point is it not PostProg squareness that yet retains spirit & becomes Avant-PostPunk Electronica...

the thing with library music is that it's a slave to trends and yet somehow seems to exist in this adjacent universe where they don't apply at all
