It's my day off, so I'm still in bed (west coast time), grazing a whisky and soda and reading Ian Fleming. Nice soundtrack, even w/technical difficulties.

Sem Chumbo:

Still touring w/ the Magic Band, I guess.
  5:19pm

My appreciation of Beefheart's genius has been tempered by the lack of credit he offered his mudicians, and the fact that Cotton left the band after being beaten up by Beefheart.

Hi! :D

I read the French book, and Harkelroad's book, and the Beefheart biography. A little obsessed, I guess. They made me happy that the "good" Captain never hooked up with Charlie Manson.
Avatar 5:30pm
Bill Mac:

@Sem Chumbo: Rockette had some sort of heart issue last year which put an end to touring with the Magics, probably another reason French decided to hang it up.

Aw too bad--this set is superb.

I think John is tired of trying to get new players in the band and then have to teach them the music. He mentioned that the Beefheart Magic Band relationship was 14 years long, as is this Magic Band reincarnation.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:51pm

I get where John is coming from Bill but its a shame - the current band with Eric Klerks, Max Kutner and Andy Niven is very good with its own personality now established.

It was pretty clear that the "success" of the early '80s Magic Band was based on all the new musicians being dedicated to learning the style of the classic band.
