Listener142985:

Greetings, Ms. Wing--liking this opener.
Avatar 12:14pm
Mary Wing:

Howdy 142985, and welcome to Wednesday, all!

A rare change for me to listen from the get-go. Hello Mary (she of the rockin' muppet icon) and whoever.
Avatar 12:25pm
Mary Wing:

Glad you're here, Parq!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:28pm
doctorjazz:

Hi Mary and the rest of you.
Avatar 12:29pm
Carmichael:

Heya Mary and radio pals. First day back from vaycay ...
Avatar 12:30pm
Mary Wing:

Hiya doctorjazz and Carmichael, ready for September?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:32pm
doctorjazz:

Ready or not...
Avatar 12:40pm
Carmichael:

Mmm, I guess ...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:45pm
Parq:

Mary @ 12:30 -- like we have a choice?
Avatar 12:47pm
Mary Wing:

Heh, I reckon not. Unless we can write August 32nd on the calendar?
  12:49pm
Listener142985:

Mary, any chance of you taking Liz Berg's slot? So sorry she is going, but you two have some overlap of sensibility. And yes those three words could serve as an awful band name.
Avatar 12:50pm
Carmichael:

Liz is leaving??
Avatar 12:51pm
Mary Wing:

I couldn't possibly fill Liz's shoes, so no. Besides, I am happy as a clam here on the Drummer stream!

Yes, Carmichael, she is leaving FMU, though I don't know if it's been officially announced?
Avatar 12:52pm
Carmichael:

Man, I leave for a week and the shit hits the fan.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:55pm
Parq:

Speaking just for myself, I will welcome September. The problems I'm having this week, with half the staff on vacation and summer procedures still in effect, would bore folks if I went into them in detail.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:55pm
Parq:

< spit take > Liz is LEAVING??
Avatar 12:56pm
Mary Wing:

[You didn't hear it from me]
Avatar 12:57pm
Carmichael:

I read the comments from Liz's last show. She said she's changing jobs after 12 years, and needs a break to get acquainted with her new reality. Something along those lines ...
  1:00pm
Listener142985:

Many of us would say the shoe thing is not an issue, but it is a good thing to be clam-happy. Liz's leaving is a big loss, but WFMU has a deep bench, so we know it won't be Uptown Girl Radio on Tuesdays.
Avatar 1:09pm
Mary Wing:

Heh heh. All Billy Joel Tuesdays? Surely that would be a sign of the apocalypse?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:10pm
doctorjazz:

It does seem to be official, read about it on some of the comment boards this morning.
  1:20pm
Listener142985:

It would be the soundtrack for after the apocalypse. Living envying the dead, etc.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:40pm
Parq:

More than some of you (more, I suspect, than many of you --at least I hope so for your sakes), I am surrounded by rabid, drooling Billy Joel fans. Virtually none of them know about FMU, and many wouldn't believe it exists even if I told them, but the ones that do know about it would surely cackle with glee to see it fall to an Uptown Girl playlist.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:42pm
doctorjazz:

I like Billy Joel...and FMU (porque no los dos?, as my daughter would say).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:46pm
Parq:

Doc, I have plenty of FMU-contrary tastes (hate "Dark Side of the Moon"? Cover your ears when I play it), so rock on, says I.
Avatar 1:48pm
Mary Wing:

I played Dark Side of the Moon last week, actually...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:49pm
doctorjazz:

Sure BJ is sappy, but hey, that can be fun (like Dark Side as well...don't tell Jeff G I listen to stuff that isn't Ornette).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:54pm
Doug Schulkind:

Blessed are the Winged!
  1:54pm
Listener142985:

Heard Pink Floyd is planning an all-Billy Joel covers tour. Dark Side of the Uptown Girl. Woo-hoo!

Mary! Doug! Wingbats!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:04pm
doctorjazz:

Hey Doug, how was school?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:11pm

Yeah! Been a long time etc.......
Avatar 2:13pm
Mary Wing:

Hi Doug and Stanley! I hope neither of you are calling my cell phone!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:16pm
Spankyflop:

I vaguely remember Heart doing a decent version of this a looong time ago.
Avatar 2:17pm
Mary Wing:

Yeah! I'm looking for that one!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:18pm
doctorjazz:

There's a not Rock And Roll sounding intro...
Avatar 2:28pm

Avatar 2:30pm

Hi NGH, glad you could make it!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:31pm

Drum Solo was Han Solo's third cousin once removed.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:31pm

Had my first class last night. Grief & Loss. It's going to be a barrel of sobs.
