Try try again. This is the beautiful thing about the era. Reparata & the D's had not a single top 40 hit but kept on at it, thanks to the multiple labels allowing them to record throughout the '60s and into the '70s.
Avatar 7:09pm
mce1965:

Brilliant stuff. Really hard to believe they didn't score at all in the US
Avatar 7:10pm
cometothesunshine:

It is surprising - they didn't slip the right people the $
Avatar 7:11pm
mce1965:

Yep
Avatar 7:12pm
cometothesunshine:

I first heard them through Beat Club, possibly on an old Night Flight episode.
Avatar 7:12pm
mce1965:

At first I think they were seen as sub-par Shangri-Las (and that first album doesn't do much to disprove that), but they went on to record much better material IMHO
Avatar 7:13pm
mce1965:

Same here re: Beat Club clip!

A lovely job, as always. I must conclude my Reparata listening in the car... thank you Andrew for all you put into these shows
  7:23pm

Your appreciation for music comes through in every episode - you do a great job.
Avatar 7:24pm
cometothesunshine:

Thank you both!
  7:25pm
Michael Luciano:

I wish I could do one of these for my favorite band - I wouldn't know where to start.
  7:28pm
Michael Luciano:

Plus, my recorded voice is really annoying.
Avatar 7:29pm
cometothesunshine:

I do my best to slow down and be less annoying and sometimes I don't sound boring!
Avatar 7:32pm
cometothesunshine:

Reparata has a really nice singing voice - not too strident.
  7:34pm
Michael Luciano:

It's not boring because you are so knowledgeable and we have never heard most of this material before. I find myself researching the bands you play when there's a song that stands out.
Avatar 7:36pm
cometothesunshine:

I appreciate that - thank you!
  7:37pm
Michael Luciano:

Listening to your show is like going to a concert and just being open to whatever comes. There's no expectation because it's all new.
  7:38pm
Michael Luciano:

and you weed out the clunkers.
Avatar 7:39pm
cometothesunshine:

It is incredible that none of these songs charted
Avatar 7:40pm
Woof:

Agreed! These songs are great!
  7:41pm
Michael Luciano:

And even more incredible some of the ones that did! If you look at the top 100 from this time - some of the songs and artists I've never even heard of.
  7:42pm
Michael Luciano:

Is one of the things that takes so long cleaning up the sound? It seems some of these 45's would be in pretty bad shape - but I don't hear all of the usual crackling of vinyl.
Avatar 7:45pm
cometothesunshine:

Actually, the technology to clean the 45s has improved to the point where that part only takes about an hour per show. It is selecting, sequencing and editing the show that takes another 10-20 hours.
Avatar 7:45pm
cometothesunshine:

All the music is played in at real time too - so there is 2 hours on top of it.
  7:47pm
Michael Luciano:

I don't know how you do it all - you seem to be everywhere these days.
Avatar 7:47pm
cometothesunshine:

But it sounds good when finished.
Avatar 7:49pm
cometothesunshine:

This is their first 45
  7:51pm
Michael Luciano:

This could have been a big hit!
Avatar 7:52pm
cometothesunshine:

They had potential for sure - and must have worked very hard to make all of these 45s!
Avatar 7:54pm
cometothesunshine:

Well, that is almost it for today. Thanks for listening to music with me. Have a fine evening.
