Daniel is staying home and listening to wfmu grand style? if that's a mayyybe, would having a beer - a very good beer -convert it to grand?

It's grand even with just seltzer! (Very good seltzer.)

Ooh -- what is this bed music? A mixdisc a friend gave me had this on it -- wish I could find that disc!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:02pm

Yeah, I guess I go for the mineral water. Gerolsteiner also sounds like it could be a beer, if you don't know any better.

Gerolsteiner is basically a bicarbonate. Like drinking baking soda. I hope it is being a buoyed, but one should be careful.

Thx, matt! Hi, Tome! Fuzzy, it's Tom Recchion's Chaotica album! The track is "Out of the Dunes".

tuskandhusk, thx fer the ears! Greetz, Fox & JGould! coela, be careful! Think before you leap! Some have been known to start using terms like dotard upon ingestion!

I love stuff that "sounds like I ran over a shopping cart with my car and am dragging it for miles" to quote a complainer on an old Bryce playlist. (Earlier I was wondering how far back "marbles in a blender" goes. Turns out it's 2012! Holy moley! Time flies like a banana! wfmu.org... )
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:29pm
Fuzzy:

@Daniel: ah yes -- that's it -- thanks!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:32pm

Ike - did i ever tell you that the troll in question (who still reappears now and then under the same handle) is the troubled brother of my college roommate?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:33pm
coelacanth∅:

(or is this a new species of winged bananas)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:35pm
melinda:

@jake I sometimes drink baking soda w/water as an antacid, not quite the same as Gerolsteiner.
Avatar 10:37pm
Ike:

@Steve: HA HA! Not that I recall! What I love about that thread is that Bryce was so persistently nice to him that he finally calmed down. @C∅: What is the air-speed velocity of an unladen banana?
  10:39pm
Marc15:

This song is special to me, because I can relate to the level of "Honey's" depression.
  10:40pm
JakeGould:

The problem with baking soda as an antacid is you need to be careful with how much you drink at once. Some people actually get worse stomach issues with that stuff because it kinda forces the stomach to produce MORE acid if you still have food in you. So you solve one problem but exacerbate it in the long run.

Anyway, enjoy it if you wish! I judge not!
  10:41pm
JakeGould:

@Ike: Was that troll on Bryce’s show today?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:41pm
Chop Scott:

Cheers to you Daniel!
Avatar 10:43pm
Ike:

@Jake, no, but there was discussion of "marbles in a blender" as there often is, & so I got nostalgic.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:43pm
melinda:

I have experimented for years with various acid reflux remedies, including acid supplementation (on the theory that low acid can cause reflux). Baking soda is a band-aid but works.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:45pm
coelacanth∅:

Ike, i do not know. we're doing tests. the mathematicians are in the basement right now working on that. i told them they don't get any food until they figure it out, but they keep saying they need more bananas for tests. they might be bamboozling me.

I got ear protector/mufflers that are worn by people in construction, and wear them over my cheap earbuds when I take the subway so I can hear all the words in podcasts without blasting the sound.

Fox that's kinda the opposite of my method when i play the drums to something via headphones...ear plugs with insulated headphones. (still sometimes it's hard to hear the music i'm drumming to over the drums)
  10:56pm

You know what might be a good WFMU premium? A “Budda Box” that just plays the echo of two dumpsters crashing into each other for 15 minutes.

Good evening, Daniel and Bluminoids.

JakeGould:

I can’t get the phrase “Mentally Deranged U.S. Dotard” out of my head. It actually makes me wistful for the old New York I grew up in where the old folks would be sitting in front of the building and on my way home someone—maybe even my mom or dad—would ask me “What’s a ‘Dotard?’”
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:09pm

"honey" borrowed heavily from "gentle on my mind".
...i've heard the song, once or twice and incidentally, and never realised that 'till now.

@Fox@10:50, that's brilliant! I'm a dotard for not thinking of that. I've gotta try that. There's a construction supply joint right down the street from me. I got some traffic cones there once.

‘The word makes a few appearances in Shakespeare. “I speak not like a dotard nor a fool,” Leonato says in “Much Ado About Nothing.”’

‘And Herman Melville used it in a poem about a shark. “Eyes and brains to the dotard lethargic and dull, Pale ravener of horrible meat.”’

The Maldive Shark

By Herman Melville

About the Shark, phlegmatical one,
Pale sot of the Maldive sea,
The sleek little pilot-fish, azure and slim,
How alert in attendance be.
From his saw-pit of mouth, from his charnel of maw
They have nothing of harm to dread,
But liquidly glide on his ghastly flank
Or before his Gorgonian head;
Or lurk in the port of serrated teeth
In white triple tiers of glittering gates,
And there find a haven when peril’s abroad,
An asylum in jaws of the Fates!
They are friends; and friendly they guide him to prey,
Yet never partake of the treat—
Eyes and brains to the dotard lethargic and dull,
Pale ravener of horrible meat.
