Yay!
Jazz show!

Abdullah Ibrahim is one of my favorite artists. Think he's one of the players I've seen live the most (took my wife to see Ekaya on our first date... She should have known what to expect then...).

How come there are no archives of this program on fmu?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:09pm

www.wfmu.org...

Here is my page - I just have not put up last weeks show

(back when Ibrahim still considered himself an "outside" player...)

Wow! That is one helluva first date! I would have stuck around... but yes, it's does present some warning to your musical bent. Seems it worked for your wife too :)

Loving the jazz show, do as many as you like... (wfmu needs more jazz)!

Thanks - I hope they don't feel like I'm dialing it in, but they are honestly my favorite... it feels right for a 90 degree Monday evening in later September! Jeez it's hot.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:07pm
doctorjazz:

Working for me. It's still about 90 degrees in Jersey as well.

Nice to hear Ayler playing changes (sort of).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:13pm
KimSorise:

I do adore Ayler in all of his ecstatic playing, but this LP has come to be one of my favorites of his.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:17pm
doctorjazz:

I have about a half dozen or more of his albums, but not this one, have to look out for it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:22pm
KimSorise:

It's all standards like Green Dolphin Street, Bye Bye Blackbird, of course, and Billie's Bounce and his composition C.T.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:26pm
doctorjazz:

Looked on Discogs, not inexpensive... All reissue too.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:31pm
KimSorise:

I have the 1965 stereo issue which I think goes for about $80 or so - but I remember not paying too much maybe $15; it was one of the first Ayler LPs I bought... easy 20 years ago

Doug Schulkind:

You have such a stupendous record collection, Kim.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:35pm
KimSorise:

I was just a weird trumpet playing teen who gave up all my New Wave cassettes at 15 and started buying jazz LPs - it didn't piss my mom off and it was complete rebellion against my suburban Detroit upbringing. But in all sincerity, thank you Major Doug!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:36pm
doctorjazz:

Went for a not too expensive vinyl reissue... (you cost me some bucks...)
:)

Yay! Doctor Jazz... Let me know how it treats you.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:52pm

Thanks so much for tuning in! I'll be in Detroit during next Monday's show - but if all goes well I hope to return with a couple new sounds. Stay tuned for Sam Segal's If You Loose Your Horse!
