Avatar 10:36pm

the music videos? the one for over the shoulder is sick. i wish there were more live videos of this era though, you can just barely find anything in that regard.

coelacanth∅:

i think i'll be dead before all the cassette decks are dead. they're pretty easy to get and a lot of people repair them.
if i had more space i'd hoard 5 or 6 of 'em.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:57pm

My friends keep putting out music on tapes so I'm shopping for a deck

Hi Rodrigo! Is Santiago nice in December? Should I go there? Or maybe I should go to Peru or Ecuador instead? What do you think? Or maybe Buenos Aires... so difficult to decide!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:06pm
Kat in Chicago:

I definitely made CD-R mixes for people when that was a new thing you could do. Not quite as fun as making mixtapes though.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:08pm
coelacanth∅:

i've made people mic cds, but the bad thing about those is that the listener can skip songs; so the mixtape is a journey, whereas the mix cd is just a collection.

good evening, Daniel and everyone!
great show, LOVE the tapes!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:09pm
Kat in Chicago:

I'm really mad at myself for losing a mixtape I made in the 80s that included bits of "Love Connection" off TV, answering machine messages, etc. I can't remember what actual music was on it, except that I know I interpolated The Roches' "The Largest Elizabeth In The World" with the Love Connection audio.

I made so many friends/gfs mix tapes in the 90s. I made my current wife a mixtape in 2008 when I met her I mailed her a walkman so she could listen to it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:11pm
Kat in Chicago:

wow, going the extra mile there
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:11pm
Kat in Chicago:

I need to get a Walkman off ebay so I can play tapes on my show.
  11:12pm
Marc15:

I still have a boombox
Avatar 11:14pm
northguineahills:

I was doing spring cleaning three years ago, and my box of mixtaps/mastertapes were put out into the common hallway (the hallway was never cleaned) and the new landlord hired people to clean the common area and they took my box of tapes, and none of the workers knew where it went.

I was gifted my father's 70s boombox, and a certain ragga/hiphop crew used it as a prop in their music video.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:14pm
Kat in Chicago:

coelecanth, I assembled mine on the computer and burned them as a continuous track so they couldn't skip around easily. heh heh
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:15pm
coelacanth∅:

ha! clever Kat!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:23pm
Kat in Chicago:

I never saw Ministry either, lol. Although I was on a Phil Donahue panel with Al circa 1984 and we had a good laugh about that at Smart Bar a few years later.
Avatar 11:25pm
Number Six:

I used to work in a place that had prerecorded announcements on cassettes. Every half hour or so they would play over the stores Muzak. One night I borrowed the next weeks tape & got rather creative with it. Drove the store management nuts when clips from Batman, Power Rangers Beavis & Butthead would pop up at random during official company commercials.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:26pm
