This is where all of culture and all of time are collapsed into one seductive portal and viewed through the panoramic lens of the exotic. Come and embark on an armchair-travel virtual-voyage to the heart of timeless darkness and beyond; embrace the numinous monolith of the exotic immensity. Let us find that place where hybridization meets its destiny as pure fantasy. Let us become observers observing those others who are ourselves. You wear your mask and I'll wear mine.

Hi Zonk! I know there's so much, it could easily be a whole show... Though I don't think I have even half of his releases. Today I'm just sticking with what's been stuck in my head for the last few weeks.

as for the image, it's my main man Max Ernst

Perhaps I shouldn't be too surprised to see that this exquisite track has been played on WFMU more than a few times! Hope you all don't mind yet another spin... to aid in fostering a fresh listen, here's a (from the looks of it, a bit rough) english lyrics translation:

Peace to those who howl because they can see clearly
Peace to our sick souls, peace to our broken hearts
Peace to our tired, tattered limbs
Peace to our degenerated generations
Peace to the great confusion of misery
Peace to those who seek
Smashing their head against the walls
Peace to the anger of the hungry man
Peace to the hate, to the rage of the oppressed
Peace to those who work with their hands
Peace to this nature
That has always given us the best it had
That is necessary for any human being whoever he is
Peace to our bellies -
Giant reservoirs of academic trash
Peace to you, my friends, your tenderness is necessary for me
Peace and respect to every life
Peace to the fascination of fire,
Peace to the break of day at the fall of night
Peace to those who walk on roads
To the endless horizons
Peace to the working horse
Peace to the humble-born souls who generate nightmares
Peace to the rivers, to the seas, to the oceans
Who give birth to fishes that shine with gasoline
Peace to my mother
Whose sorrowful smile disappears when she's by her children
Peace to those who aren't here anymore
And to those who had worked hard all their lives waiting for better days

going back a bit, but that Bruno Nicolai...I really associate him so much more with horror movies. don't remember too many western soundtracks of his.

it's too bad Italian genre movies just cratered after the 80's. so vibrant in the 60's & 70's.

none of them have real memorable soundtracks though, except McCabe and Pat Garrett

@UM i think many of the westerns made in the 70's are sort of post-westerns. Pat Garrett, Ulzana's Raid, The Shootist, Hired Hand, Hannie Caulder, The Great Northfield Minnesota Raid etc. They are all wrestling with the form in the age of Vietnam

haha look at that sych-up, UM

Judge Roy Bean! That's a weird one, never knew what to think of it
Avatar 9:40pm

except The Shootist, which is mostly wrestling with the western and the death of Old Hollywood

There's an incredible Mexican film starring Dolores Del Rio and Jack Palance, set in a small Mexican village. It's in Spanish, which Palance spoke fluently.

Wow, this music almos sounds Oaxacan!

You can't really deal wit classic western without Peck in the Gunfighter, because the whole trope in cinema begins there.

He is so awesome! in my opinion, he's one of the most important and rightly cherished artists of this brief period of human history where music is able to be recorded

You guys might like The Big Trail, which is a b&w early John Wayne movie. Thought I'd hate it but it's really great.
