Greetings, all! Today's edition of guess-the-LP-underneath-the cassettes should be an easy one.

Hey, Rich! Wuz just going to say: The cassette on now is the one on the left, with the Basil Wolverton freakout fellow.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:09pm
Rich in Washington:

Basil's from my hometown Vancouver Washington. That there isn't a Lena Hyena statue on Main Street in his honor is a disgrace.

Hi Tony, Happy New Year!

I mean, there's a Willie Nelson mural in town, commemorating the couple of years he was a radio DJ on Vancouver radio, but no love for Basil.

@ Rich: Wow! Didn't know Wolverton was from Vancouver! That should make you swell with civic pride.

This is great. An early example of someone collecting those wonderfully trashy garage singles.

It does.
Also, Monte, his son, also lives in nearby Battle Ground Washington, and he's also an illustrator, painter, sculptor. He's a syndicated editorial cartoonist.

This side of this tape features lots of songs about bugs. The second side has lots of Japanese stuff.

No guesses re today's LP jacket? Yvang was gentlemanly enough to recuse himself, but that doesn't mean everyone else should abstain.

Well done, @steveo.
Avatar 12:32pm
Tony Coulter:

Yes, well done, Steveo. The "Butterfly Cover" LP is a common dollar bin item to this day, despite the fact that it came out 50 years ago. The artistes are very toothy and have high-pitched , tremulous voices.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:34pm
steveo:

well done, Google, really. their reverse image search is pretty good.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:37pm
Jeff Golick:

I'm sort of fascinated by that actor on the left, ID'd as Stan Ross on that movie still page. Memorable face. I see he played "weirdo in the schoolyard" on a Welcome Back, Kotter episode, per IMDB, which seems about right.

i did finally find the butterfly's identity , by taking a screen shot of the uncovered rectangle where the head, antenna and part of the wings are, and feeding that to google. I won't give it away, though, because that's cheating.

Wow, @Jeff G. One of the album covers depicted there is Solution's Cordon Bleu, a not half bad jazzy/proggy/poppy record on Elton John's Rocket label.

I think Jeff ID'd it. Bee Gees' comp, no?

My son spent the week up through Christmas Eve in PDX, @Tony. Got stranded on the tarmac at PDX for a few hours due to snow. For the first half hour or so he was mighty frustrated, then he realized what fun it was to watch heavy snowfall for the first time.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:40pm
Rich in Washington:

Me too. I'd loved to have seen one of the live participation screenings, where director/star Ray Dennis Steckler (aka Cash Flagg) would emerge from the shadows and seemingly off the screen to menace audience members.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:41pm
Jeff Golick:

Life can be so strange(love): "The title was originally going to be The Incredibly Strange Creature: Or Why I stopped Living and Became a Mixed-up Zombie, but Columbia Pictures threatened writer/director/star Ray Dennis Steckler with a massive lawsuit, thinking that the title was too similar to their upcoming Stanley Kubrick film, Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb (1964). Steckler was amazed that Columbia would feel so threatened by his little $38,000 film. He phoned the studio to straighten things out, but couldn't make any progress until he demanded that Kubrick get on the line. Then Steckler simply suggested the new title - Kubrick accepted, and the whole thing was dropped."
