Phew! Hi everyone! Thanks for coming back after last week's fiasco. Here's hoping we have an hour without incident :)
Avatar 3:02pm

Also - oh no - what happened with Bill Mac? Technical difficulties as well?

I'm wearing my FMA shirt today, woo hop

I've had three people here in Gainesville recognize WFMU when I wear my tees.

Loved that Brazda!

Woo hop's good, woo hop's fine. Embrace it as your signature exclamation.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:09pm
Ken From Hyde Park:

Bill couldn't get his music onto the stream. Doug was saying the problem was different than the FMA problem last week. Happy that all is well today. Woo hop!
Avatar 3:09pm
Cheyenne:

Woo hop rhymes with doo wop so I'm here for it.

I love how you can tell Zlatne Uste is out in the crowd bouncing around for this recording!

I think a couple hours at this festival would be about the wicked woo hoppiest thing a body could enjoy.

sounds like a great time
Avatar 3:13pm

Admittedly I've only been to the festival to record sessions that were going to FMA/WFMU but it was tons of fun, so much energy and life!

Hello, Cheyenne, FMA-ers, passers-by.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:18pm
Stanley:

Ah, the Yorkshire Bahia Colliery Brass Band
Avatar 3:20pm
Cheyenne:

Fun fact: the Čoček is a style of music AND a type of dance, often performed together, but it can be either one!
Avatar 3:22pm

Beatles almost went with "Yorkshire Bahia Colliery Brass Band" before settling on the Pepper thing instead.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:25pm

Beatles were right posh coming from Liverpool and all that.

Max's New Hat played last year too - they're great! Their set is on FMA: freemusicarchive.org...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:34pm

And so, what and who influenced Sardinian vocal music. I wonder?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:35pm
Ken From Hyde Park:

Tipsy Oxcart is a great Balkan band name. Suspense builds to see if they make the show today. I'm not sure if they played at Golden Festival or not.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:36pm
Webhamster Henry:

They had a great time! Whatta show!
Avatar 3:39pm
still b/p:

It's said that the Sardinian singing includes and echoes what's right in the lived environment...sounds of wind, sheep, etc. But cultural lineage and influence would be fascinating to know.
Avatar 3:39pm
northguineahills:

Sardinian vocal music sounds a lot like Occitanian vocal music (which is nearly extinct), and it's just a skip across a wee bit of the Med from Sardinia.
Avatar 3:40pm
northguineahills:

Occitania = (medieval SE France)
Avatar 3:41pm
Cheyenne:

@Webhamster - I just checked my to-do pile of Golden Fest sets - Max's New Hat will be joining the FMA yet again with their 2018 set!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:42pm

...best known for the tenore polyphonic throat singing, sacred chants called gosos, the launeddas, an ancient instrument that consists of a set of three single-reed pipes, all three mouth-blown simultaneously using circular breathing, with two chanters and one drone...via wikithingy.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:44pm
Sem:

Launeddas date to at least 800 B.C. the same piece says.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:44pm
Stanley:

ngh - I'm happy o say that Occitan singing is alive and well in Bearn (SW France) where my parents live. A lot of the old boys still know the tunes and often have impromtu singalongs at parties.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:47pm
Ken From Hyde Park:

@Stanley - I've visited Montpellier & Palavas in France. Is that far from the Bearn area?
