Excellent choice.
Avatar 12:23pm

how's that, Cecile? can you spell it?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:24pm
Kat in Chicago:

Cecile, despite the friends and acquaintances I've got in Berlin, I don't think I even know how to do that. How you say?
Avatar 12:26pm
Cecile:

You say it kind of lightly, "BAIHR-lin". You don't punch the R very much.
Avatar 12:27pm

accent on the first syllable? wow!

Linda - yes, and it's, how to put it, light and delicate sounding. English sounds harsh. Which is funny because we make fun of Germans for being gutteral and harsh.

Damn, this set is keeping me alive (and head dancing) at work. Any Baile Funk?
Avatar 12:43pm
northguineahills:

@Cecile: I've always heard it pronounced Behr-lin, but yes, the r is barely there.... I'm sure someone more proficient in linguistic terminology can correct me.
  12:47pm
Fashion Tashjian:

Hmm, I'm visiting Berlin later in February and do I need lessons on how to pronounce it properly? My friend who lives there simply says it "BEhrLIN" given my limitations of transliteration here.

Anyway, no bother, I'm just going to bring gifts from Armenia, do drugs we don't have in Armenia, and go to legendary clubs.
Avatar 12:47pm
Cecile:

I kind of have to overexaggerate the "ehr" sound or the old Spanish reflexes kick in.
Avatar 12:48pm
Cecile:

That sounds like how I heard it, Fashion. I was just excited that I finally learned to say it not so much like an Amurrrican.

weird, Fashion Tashjian, I've been to Berghain as well....
Avatar 1:09pm
Cecile:

I typed in "notorious Berghain" when you all mentioned it before. I don't think they will let me in, unless as comic relief.
So I have to come up with a phrase when I go there like "where do the old, ugly, unhip people go to dance to good music?"
Avatar 1:13pm
Cecile:

WOW, this is a great cover.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:13pm
Kat in Chicago:

My friend who moved there from here pretty much lives at Tresor. i think you'd be fine there, Cecile.
Avatar 1:13pm
northguineahills:

@Cecile: When I went to Berghain, there was an avant string quartet, and later elector-acoustic and noise. I was the median age at the time, and there were peeps older then you are now (I saw people 18-70). It is a bit of a hike from the train.
Avatar 1:14pm

Hello Duane and everybody! Got a tight set of UB&B classics going right about now!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:16pm

That's the second really great version of Fever I've heard on FMU this week. Mr. Fine Wine played an excellent one last Friday by one Alvin Robinson.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:21pm
JtotheK:

@Kat - that's right! I heard that AR 45 on Mr Fine Wine's show. And various WFMU dj's (including Duane, I think) have spun the bonkers 'Fever' by La Lupe on the Mercury label, which is really great.

Speaking of UB&B classics, is that a reissue of that Melvin Bliss?
Avatar 1:27pm
