Welcome, melinda! Hope you guys are having a good week so far! I'm excited about all the Easter candy that'll be on sale soon.

Oooo, I wish I had a garden out here. Apartment livin' means I have a couple of succulents in little pots but no lil farm of my own. Whatcha growin, northguineahills?

I ate a lemon Starburst and a li’l milk chocolate egg at the same time yesterday. I can recommend it.

Whoa. Haven't heard of that combo before!

listener james from westwood:

The coffee/doughnut shop where I had breakfast this morning always has two tip jars that together ask a different binary question every day or so. Today's Easter-themed choice was to tip for either Cadbury Eggs (presumably the Creme Eggs) or Peeps. I went with the former. By the time I left, the undercaffeinated electorate was about evenly split.

Well, in Brooklyn, I had my illegal nano-garden on my fire escape (and until Sandy, on the roof). Right now, just various breeds of tomatoes, tomatillos, jalapenos, habaneros, ghost peppers, watermelon, cucumbers, collard greens, and more herbs then I can count. (also have native wildflowers and Mexican sunflowers in the front yard and back yard, no lawn here). Grow gardens, not lawns!

I'm not used to this much space, and digging through so many thick roots.

Sometimes i think a more southerly climate with longer growing season would be nice, but I also kinda like having a long break from gardening and not having to think about tending to the outdoor side of things.

@melinda: Yeah, planting in mid may rather then mid-Feb has its advantages

...and kudzu
Avatar 3:35pm
Cheyenne:

My family back in Kentucky has a lot of gardening skills, but I never got any good at it. But they usually have some tomatoes to spare, so it works out.

I'm basically self-taught and didn't start until my mid-30s.
Avatar 3:37pm
northguineahills:

There is some kudzu in FL, but it gets deep when you get close to GA.
Avatar 3:38pm
Cheyenne:

Kudzu was a big problem in KY for awhile too. Invasive AF. It covered whole trees, making weird ivy blobs on hillsides. It seems to be under control now, for the most part, thanks to goats.

melinda:

@ngh same here, though I started in my late 20s I've lost some vigor since then. Also moved to a location with crappy soil, more shade, and a great farmers market, so my incentives shifted. I want to get better at house plants though.

I am so happy to have Luna in the FMA!!
Avatar 3:44pm

THe soil here is very sandy and the topsoil only 6 inches/15cm deep before you his sand/limestone. But, every plant I have is bred for FL soils.

@Cheyenne me too!

Does this band Luna have anything to do with the band Orchestra Luna from Boston in the mid 70s?
Avatar 3:49pm
Cheyenne:

Not that I'm aware, Parq

Parq:

I vaguely remember hearing that O.L. had reformed as Luna, who put out a great power-pop 45 in 1979, "Hooray for Hollywood". Never heard anything for years and years, and then the current Luna came along. Was just wondering.
