Gary: Oh, Super Rail Band, have them on some comp w/longer name of some hotel; may have been a steady gig for them. (Railroad Hotel?)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:20pm
Gary:

I think Bamako Hotel?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:20pm
Gary:

Nope, sorry, I was wrong. Just looked it up, it's: Super Rail Band of the Buffet Hotel de la Gare

Back in '98, the band I was in at the time, got a gig in my hometown. My parents came and left w/in 7 mins. I asked them later why they left, they said, "It sounded like noise" (Not a totally inaccurate description)

My first band was just our given names except I, it was somewhere b/tn the Orb and Pierre Henry. I played French horn through a mic and pedals, and my bandmates played drum machines, sequencers, and micromoogs (and tons of fx). The punk band that we opened for in the aforementioned show literally pulled the plug on us.

All of my Turkish friends have fled Turkey for the US or Germany since Erdogan took over (most left in the early-mid 2000s). In the last few years, they won't even go back to see their family. 'Tis a shame, Istanbul is a city I really want to see.

turkey must be beautiful, and the exchange students i knew 10 years ago claimed the people were much less oppressed than in the us. (and they were living/going to school in a very "progressive" community here)
i could believe it, but maybe that's changed...and maybe the levels of freedom are different depending on one's religion, ethnicity, class or whatever.

Hey y'all - looks like a great set, Gary! Will have to catch it in the archives. Was gripped listening to the A's game. They finally beat the White Sox in the bottom of the 14th, after nearly 6 hours of play! And the rookie reliever who had his debut last night got the win, with 3 innings of scoreless relief.
