Mayuko:

@Jesse thanks for the video link! I was just at some beaches and creeks, thinking gull identification is something hardcore bird watchers can handle. And the most hardest core one is sparrow identification, I think....

Jesse Kaminsky:

I got super into beetles for a while and it was really fun but I think I discovered that there's only so far I can go before getting really lost in the minute differences. Do you use project noah at all?
Avatar 9:00pm
Mayuko:

I DID NOT KNOW IT AND I JUST CREATED AN ACCOUNT!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thank you! This looks exciting!!! Man, I can't imagine getting into insects - I'm already lost in the bird level of subtlety and complexity.

Hi Peeps- Is it nesting season there?
Avatar 9:05pm
Jesse Kaminsky:

@mayuko, it's cool because there are lots of people who know way more than me there, you can label a photo as unknown and people help with the ID
Avatar 9:10pm
Jesse Kaminsky:

Hey chresti! It's pretty much always nesting season around here
Avatar 9:11pm
Mayuko:

I've been using something similar to this that's connected from audubon app, which often breaks and gives me trouble logging in. Noah seems far more popular and UI looking better to me.

Has anyone else had trouble with the new pop-up player? I find that it only plays the main stream, so I've been using itunes for alternate streams.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:21pm
chresti:

Yes! I did have trouble-it changed players. Seems to work now, tho

  9:38pm
holasoymilk:

Avatar 9:38pm
northguineahills:

hola holasoymilk. You just reminded me I need new soy milk, my old one is probably bad (only use it for cooking).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:41pm
coelacanth∅:

much bigger than a ground squirrel.
...(is "woodchuck" just another name for "grondhog"?)
Avatar 9:45pm

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:49pm
coelacanth∅:

i'm looking at images and, unless i'm forgetting all about one, i think it's probably a groundhog.
  9:49pm
holasoymilk:

I thought a woodchuck was similar to a beaver?
  9:49pm
holasoymilk:

night, mayuko
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:50pm
chresti:

I don't think there are any groundhogs here.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:53pm
chresti:

There are giant rats reported near Sacramento, I think.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:53pm
coelacanth∅:

the landlord knows about it and that it's gnawing on the house under my bedroom and he doesn't seem to care, so i don't care. if it gets too loud i stamp my foot on the floor and it stops.
- hola i think you're right and i first thought it was a beaver but the beaver has that wide tail for making dams.
Avatar 9:54pm
northguineahills:

@holasoymilk: Similar in body in size.

@woodchuck: groundhogs and woodchucks are synonymous.
Avatar 9:56pm
northguineahills:

errr.. coel: woodchuck... (can't brain).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:57pm
coelacanth∅:

haha ngh! right isn't "woodchuck" a new england thing?
  9:57pm
holasoymilk:

I googled woodchuck (ya know since I'm connected to the internet) it said it is a groundhog
Avatar 9:58pm
northguineahills:

Depends how much a woodchuck could chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood ;)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:58pm
coelacanth∅:

and if it can't it's just a damn groundhog.
