Hello, all. I don't see how anyone could possibly recognize today's LP-under-the-cassettes, as it's just a small detail and the cover is turned sideways. But just in case any of you is freakishly gifted at recognizing album covers, I won't give away the secret yet. Any guesses?

Good Tuesday, Tony and all!!

Tony Coulter:

Hey there, James!
Avatar 12:07pm
Tony Coulter:

Oh, the tape on now is the one in the middle, with the mutant sex doll.
Avatar 12:08pm
Tony Coulter:

It comes with a big booklet, which, sadly, I'm missing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:13pm
steveo:

i'm not very attracted to that sex doll, tony, i'll be honest. also, hi.
Avatar 12:15pm
Tony Coulter:

Don't be narrow-minded, Steveo. Radioactive mutants can be sexy too. (Hiya!)
Avatar 12:18pm
Tony Coulter:

No guesses re the LP cover? I'll wait 10 more minutes before making the big reveal. Don't miss out on valuable cash and prizes!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:19pm
steveo:

google image search says it's "scrapbooking" lol
  12:21pm
Dean:

Trying to guess. Twenty questions? Or four (but not Y/N)?

1. Detail from front or back?
2. New wave?
3. British or US?
4. Gatefold?
Avatar 12:22pm
Tony Coulter:

Hey, Dean! Front cover; U.K. Here's a hint: it's related to something Nice.
  12:23pm
Dean:

Brian Davison's Every Which Way
Avatar 12:25pm
Tony Coulter:

You got it!! Pack your bags, Dean -- you're going on an all-expenses-paid trip to Flumdiddle.

Here's the cover: www.discogs.com...
  12:25pm
Dean:

Flumdiddle is gorgeous this time of year!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:31pm
steveo:

Impressed, Dean.
  12:35pm
Dean:

Man, Roy Baker got around! Engineer on the Davison record.
  12:37pm
Dean:

I prefer the old Charisma label pressing: https://www.discogs.com/Brian-Davison-Brian-Davisons-Every-Which-Way/release/1942988

Was listening last night to a recent CD collection of Brand X's Charisma records. It, too, features the old label, even though Brand X LPs appeared with the later one.
Avatar 12:45pm
Tony Coulter:

I favor the Mad Hatter label myself.
  12:47pm
Dean:

Agreed. I meant I prefer the old Charisma label to the Mercury. Once upon a time, I'd eagerly acquire any Charisma record, particularly those with the Mad Hatter, sight unheard.
Avatar 12:47pm
Monica:

love this psyclones rap track, tony!
Avatar 12:48pm
Tony Coulter:

Monica! Nice to see you here! Did you notice that he name-checked Aerosmith?
Avatar 12:51pm
Monica:

perhaps the run dmc/aerosmith "walk this way" (1986) influence.
Avatar 12:52pm
Tony Coulter:

That's what I figured....
Avatar 12:54pm
Tony Coulter:

The Pseudo Code track on now is also on this comp of theirs: www.discogs.com...
Avatar 12:54pm
Tony Coulter:

And I've played it before, from that comp.

Sometime last year I picked up a huge pile of Ken Clinger tapes. I'll eventually play one or more of them here on Tape Hiss.

Umm, the cassette tracklist *does* say "Sence"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:33pm

more like 'seance', amirite?
  1:34pm
Dean:

Essence, insence
Avatar 1:35pm
Tony Coulter:

Outsence?
  1:35pm
Dean:

Exsence
  1:37pm
Dean:

Come to think of it, Exsence sounds like one of those vapid trademarks companies adopt these days. I swear, there is a Cartelligent and a Stratelligence. Who comes up with these words?
  1:39pm
Dean:

Credit where due, Problemist took a lot from Eno/Byrne.
Avatar 1:43pm
Tony Coulter:

My Life in the Tush of Jesus?
  1:48pm
Dean:

Yeah, well, leave it to snoots like Eno and Byrne to appropriate the work of a Nigerian author. Album would have been that much better if they'd called it The Clan of the Cave Bear or A People's History of the United States.
Avatar 1:51pm
Tony Coulter:

I was an Amos Tutuola fan a million years ago, back in high school. Haven't read him since, for no good reason. (Back then, I read a lot -- these days, I spend my time listening to crappy dollar-bin records.)
  1:55pm
Dean:

I blame my lapse in reading on the easiest of targets: my kids! But then, I can now credit them for a slight increase in reading. My daughter was recently not well, so I spent a lot of time at home with her. Over two days I reread Brian Aldiss's Cryptozoic (albeit in its original UK incarnation as An Age). First read it in high school decades ago. Fun to revisit. It takes place in part in 2093. No mention of an internet! I suppose that's because Aldiss published it the year before ARPANET saw its first advance with the nascent technology.

Oops! Sorry for the crackly crackle during that mic break -- happens sometimes when I brush against the cord.

Avatar 2:11pm

@Ike: Hey, there. I brought some extraneous apostrophes' for you.
Avatar 2:12pm
Tony Coulter:

Ike! Thanks for the extra apostrophes. I'll shape them into a stylish crown.
Avatar 2:14pm
Tony Coulter:

If, Bwana = Al Margolis (who runs both the Sound of Pig and Pogus labels)
Avatar 2:16pm
Ike:

@βrian: Thanks, but I'm full. (BURRRRP)
Avatar 2:18pm
Tony Coulter:

Oh, silly me -- the apostrophes are for Ike. I'll have to use exclamation points instead.
  2:19pm
Dean:

Nope, @βrian. Has to be Vapidelligence.

Knockin' it out of the park, TC. Hissalicious.

this is a great comp so far. damn.
Avatar 2:45pm

If I can score a copy of the other tape in the set, I will definitely play the whole thing here on Tape Hiss.

Weird burst of Star Wars there, but entirely in character for a Tape Hiss!
Avatar 2:50pm
Tony Coulter:

This is kind of obvious, I guess, but this BCO track is clearly a tribute to Faust's "Why Don't You Eat Carrots?"
Avatar 2:52pm

It borders on being a cover.....
Avatar 2:53pm

... but isn't, really....
