Good morning Jeff and listeners

Hey hey, Jeff and all!

Uncle Michael:

Let's get this party started.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:03am
Jeff Golick:

Hey, @fred! @listener james! @Uncle Michael! Welcome welcome.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:05am
fred:

@Jeff: Are you through the Destination: Somewhere Else ordeal?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:06am
listener james from westwood:

Gaaah! Dog-mouth extractions can be gnarly.
  9:08am
Listener Gregory:

I set my alarm today, so I am requesting full credit.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:09am
Jeff Golick:

@fred: sadly, no. We were approved for a place, and all that we've been waiting for is the lease to sign. But there's some hold up; a complaint was filed re the renovation/repairs that were done on the apt we saw, and it seems the management co. can't issue a new lease until they resolve things with this other tenant. Meanwhile, we've begun looking again...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:10am
Jeff Golick:

@Listener Gregory: gold star! Welcome.
  9:14am
Doug Schulkind:

Hi Jeff, so sorry to hear about the apartment search woes.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:15am
Jeff Golick:

Thanks, @Doug. Good to see you here. You wasting away again in Triscuitville?
  9:19am
Doug Schulkind:

Triscuits to the left of me, Triscuits to the right of me, here I am stuck in the D:O with you!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:23am
Stanley:

Hi "Butch"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:24am
Jeff Golick:

What is up, @Stanley?
  9:25am
Doug Schulkind:

Back to the... Happy Outbounding, everyone!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:25am
fred:

This Butch Morris reminds me of Ethiopian flute music at times
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:26am
Jeff Golick:

He really packs a lot into these conductions. This one was recorded in Japan, with some Japanese musicians.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:28am
Stanley:

I suppose he just didn't care for the name, Lawrence. It is a bit lame.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:30am
Jeff Golick:

...and yet I most frequently see him represented as "Lawrence D. 'Butch'" -- an odd case where the nickname is generally joined by the proper name.
  9:33am
Listener Gregory:

If it's spelled "Laurence," it has a lot more class.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:35am
fred:

@Gregory: Yet Laurence Tolhurst chose to be known as "Lol". I guess that one didn't age that well
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:36am
Sem:

Late to this destination, but now IN. Hello, Jeff, adventurous jazz folk.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:37am

clanky goodness here
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:37am

@Sem, hello!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:38am

I agree ljfw. Sounds like it's recorded in the jungle in summer

Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 9:59am
doctorjazz:

Sorry to hear about the moving problems Jeff.
  10:01am
Listener Gregory:

I got up early-ish today, so LESS fun please! At least, not until 11.
  10:02am
Dean:

Paal Nilssen-Love is probably too young to know Zap magazine. If he did, he probably wouldn't have named his ensemble Extra Large Unit.
  10:04am
Listener Gregory:

@Dean ... or WOULD he?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:05am
Jeff Golick:

@Dean, Dean, Dean.

Dean.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:05am
Jeff Golick:

@doctorjazz! Hello, and thank you.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:05am
Jeff Golick:

@LG: will try to lower the fun quotient.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 10:08am
doctorjazz:

The Extra Large Unit can, ahem, really perform!
  10:19am
Dean:

Triple Point Records has a 6CD compilation of previously unreleased Bill Dixon solo trumpet and other works.
  10:21am
Listener Gregory:

More Nilssen-Love on this piece? Still kind of high on the fun quotient then.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:21am
Jeff Golick:

The Odyssey set, @Dean? I don't think that's Triple Point... Or is there something else?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:22am
Jeff Golick:

@LG: Hamid Drake and Michael Zerang on drums here. At some point it will get less fun.
  10:22am
Dean:

Was eyeing this Brotzmann set just the other day. Due to its size/shape, it sits with random other box sets that don't fit alphabetically on the shelves: Faces, Hawkwind, William Parker, etc.

Yes, Odyssey. TP is promoting/distributing the few remaining copies, it appears.
  10:23am
Dean:

Heard the Tentet at Victo around this time, what appeared as the Stone/Water record. Amazing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:26am
Jeff Golick:

Ah, jealous, @Dean. What a great group.

Triple Point is run by Ben Young, who literally wrote the book on Dixon, so that makes sense, I guess.

I played that Stone/Water performance at some point on D:O, I think.
  10:28am
Dean:

Yesterday I received the 2LP Cecil Taylor/Tony Oxley set Young is selling. It's gorgeous. Haven't played it yet, but I've heard tracks on WFMU. The package itself, though, is gorgeous, too.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:28am
fred:

Hey, I once saw a Zerang/Guionnet set that featured a lot of fun
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:30am
Jeff Golick:

That's the only Triple Point set I own, @Dean. Eternally grateful to have made it to one of those CT/Oxley gigs at the Vanguard.
  10:32am
Dean:

Must have been sublime.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:32am
fred:

Speaking of Zerang, he was in one version of Joe McPhee's Survival Unit, with Fred Lonberg-Holm (there's a funny video out there of Lonberg-Holm showing off his Joe McPhee tatoo)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:33am
Jeff Golick:

@fred: Zerang is a name I'm always happy to see in any given line-up.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:35am
Jeff Golick:

If all goes according to plan, my son will be matriculating in the fall to college, in Poughkeepsie, which is McPhee's home base. I am already planning, vaguely, to schedule school visits around McPhee gigs.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:41am
fred:

@Jeff: That sounds like a plan. I saw McPhee a couple of months ago, and he was as great as usual. A bonus to your plan is that it gives an incentive to your son to check out Joe McPhee's schedule, if only to hide the most compromising stuff
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 10:41am
doctorjazz:

This Brotzmann Tentet is absolutely amazing
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:42am
Sem:

^!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:43am
Jeff Golick:

@fred: Ha!
  10:43am
Dean:

Brotzmann's coming to town in August, after two nights in LA. Toying with heading down for those dates, too.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:44am
Uncle Michael:

Heading to breakfast. Have a great day, everyone. Thanks for the music, Jeff.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:45am
Jeff Golick:

Cookies weren't breakfast? Disappointed. But thanks for being here, @Uncle Michael. Have a great one.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 10:46am
doctorjazz:

Ben Young is a familiar name, I think I remember hearing him host jazz shows on WKCR.
(organizing CD's and stuff in my living room while listening, my wife is complaining it looks like a storage room. I thought it was ..)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:47am
Jeff Golick:

Yes, Young has been associated with KCR for a long while, I believe.

I've been ripping and packing CDs lately, too. Gonna drop a few boxes off at the station one of these days. Trying to pare down, pre-move.
  10:49am
Listener Gregory:

All this Chicago stuff is really good.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:51am
Jeff Golick:

The fun levels are pretty high, though.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:51am
fred:

If you mark these records as formerly owned by Jeff G, does that increase or decrease their value? Rhetorical question, I guess, as they're headed to the $1 bin
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 10:52am
doctorjazz:

Sunny here in Westfield, going to see my daughter do some cabaret in the city tonight, so I'm going to go biking now Catch up in the archives. Great day, All!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:52am
Jeff Golick:

Bye, @doc. Enjoy the sun, while it lasts!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:53am
Jeff Golick:

I'm gonna play the next song on this Mazurek album, too. Just fyi.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:54am
fred:

I'm all for it
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:00am
Jeff Golick:

:::air drumming:::
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:02am
fred:

I think air drumming is allowed on the drummer stream; as long as it's not dead air, air is a welcome element like all others
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:06am
listener james from westwood:

This show is coaxing the sun out of hiding! Wonderful 2 hours!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:08am
fred:

This part reminds me of Sigur Ros
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:13am
fred:

re: air drumming, I once saw Acid Mothers Temple SWR do an air song. I think it was Pink Lady Lemonade
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:16am
Jeff Golick:

Well that must've been amazing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:20am
fred:

It was part of one of their Japanese New Music Festival tours (sest with all combinations of from 1 to 3 members) which I recommend. These are a lot of fun, and they're later than 11am, Gregory
  11:22am
rw:

Good morning! I was trying to think of something witty to say but it's too darned early on a Sunday morning. Hope everybody's doing well.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:23am
Jeff Golick:

Good morning, @rw!
  11:24am
Listener Gregory:

I saw Kronos Quartet do an air violin/viola/cello performance once. They were bowing furiously, and then you got the impression that something looked wrong. They had gradually raised their bows above the instruments until they were eventually over their heads... yet the music continued regardless. It was fun!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:29am
fred:

Kronos are great! Haven't seen them in a while though, their shows got so expensive
  11:30am
Dean:

Long ago, Kronos Quartet would perform an encore consisting of a medley of television show tunes.
  11:30am
Listener Gregory:

Jeff, you missed a "Destination:Out, out, damned spot" reference with your hand-washing. And Macbeth would perfectly fit our weather lately.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:32am
listener james from westwood:

While in Chicago, I made it out to Dusty Groove, and was totally frozen up at the jazz section, esp. the Ra section—brain lock on what to pick up among the profusion. Eventually left with an Ace Records comp of 1965 pop/rock hits, the Suspiria soundtrack, and library music (a KPM and a Nelson Records one).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:36am
Jeff Golick:

I might've never left, @ljfw. Nice work.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:46am

@Jeff; Leaving was tough. But there were still bookstores to hit. At one of them, Quimby's, I scored the 33 1/3 for Yōko Kanno's soundtrack to the anime Cowboy Bebop! Had no idea this book existed!
  11:48am
Fred Johnzon:

Psa... pet owners... research local animal hospitals BEFORE an emergency happens! Prices RANGE! Considerably! Consider buying pet insurgence! And a tracker collar! Ok... sorry... back to the music.

Listener Gregory:

I think pet insurgence is what got @Jeff in trouble to begin with.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:52am

Thanks, and hello, @Fred Johnzon! It's good advice. Here in Brooklyn, there's some dog flu going around that has everyone freaking out.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:55am

This cut alone has made my day. Thanks, Jeff. Mid-70s Miles is always a puzzlement and a treat simultaneously. See you and all again, by and by.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:57am
Jeff Golick:

Great to have you here, @Sem! See you, yes.
  11:57am
Fred Johnzon:

Dog flu is a scam. Dogs are a scam. Brooklyn is a scam. There is no meaning. If I was married to Miles Davis I would not sleep with Jimi Hendrix without his(Miles') knowledge. That's like if you have a slice of pie and go for a slice of cake... finish your pie first... or at least tell the pie they're gonna be cohabiting your digestive system with cake. Am I crazy?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:57am

David is right: you could go on for more than 30 HOURS before encroaching on another DJ's show

@david w: Ordinarily I would, but there are apartments to see, movers coming to give estimates...
  11:59am
