At the summit, yes, but in the 40s and unpredictable otherwise. Forest service found a skunk up there yesterday. Strangest place...

I think an underrated aspect of Ryley's music is the different tones and styles he is able to sing in...

Morning Jeff et al...Jeff my wife is an experienced long distance hiker here in NorCal. Feel free to get ahold of me offline with specifics of what you're looking for and we can try to give you some info. Love Ryley's new lp, btw.
  12:15am
J:

I recommend Nor Cal. Shasta Trinity Forest, specifically. But everywhere up here is amazing. This place is just exceptionally magical

Clint in Reno:

Lassen Volcanic Nat’l Park. Underrated.
  12:19am

Yeah def Lassen too. So much around here.

Haven’t done much hiking but the redwoods are amazing to camp in. Jedediah State Park and Elk Prairie are beautiful.

@sberger: Has she done the PCT?

Havent been to Norcal in 15 years. Did some camping in Big Sur.

She did a 100 mile section of the PCT, and also the 220 mile John Muir trail.
Avatar 12:28am

@sberger: WOW. That's awesome. I've watched a lot of YouTube docs about those two trails. Looks unreal..

Anyone near Western Mass take note:

Matt Valentine/J Mascis/John Moloney playing a Neil covers set this coming Saturday at the Root Cellar in Greenfield....
  1:19am
MONEYBAG$:

I might have to make that journey
Avatar 1:20am
Adamsworth:

WHOA. I hope it gets taped.
  1:20am
J:

Anyone else remember Mascis' Zep tribute, Lard Zeppelin? He was Bonham and crushed it
Avatar 1:20am
Jeff Conklin:

There's a 65 percent chance im going. 95 percent chance its getting taped....
Avatar 1:22am
Adamsworth:

I had some friends who had a band called BONZO back in the day that was all drummers doing Zep covers. I never heard or saw them though... I think Ben Jones from Paper Rad was the main dude, and Nate Nelson from Mouthus was in it at some point too... he told me about it.
  1:23am
MONEYBAG$:

I saw J play Cortez the Killer with the cast of Portlandia...this looks better
Avatar 1:24am
Adamsworth:

I remember back when I'd read a lot of music magazines, J was mad about the constant Neil comparisons and said he wasn't really into him, ha ha.
Avatar 1:24am
Jeff Conklin:

More news: Part 2 of my appearance on Brokedown Podcast drops this week. I play/talk 80s Dead ;)
  1:25am
J:

I went to MassArt with Ben and Nate aka BONZO haha
Avatar 1:26am
Adamsworth:

@J, Nice! I worked as a cook with Nate for a couple years in Baltimore. Great dude. I haven't talked to him in forever, and he's not on social media still, I don't think.
  1:27am
J:

Used to hear them practicing sometimes. Ben was a great drummer. Nate is and was one of the best I've met. Don't remember them doing much outside of school though. Hazy days, almost 20 years ago sheesh
  1:28am
MONEYBAG$:

Can't wait to hear the Day Job from Veneta
Avatar 1:29am
Ike:

Oh and I would never bust on you for your German pronunciation! I *would*, however, bust on you for playing these dopey stoned ding-dongs! ;)
Avatar 1:29am
Jeff Conklin:

@Moneybags: LOL. It's mentioned....
  1:29am
J:

@Adamsworth nice. Yeah I need to call Nate. Was supposed to do a tape with him for his Afternoon Penis project. Sorta lost touch when he went back to Baltimore. Small world..
Avatar 1:31am
Adamsworth:

Oh yeah, he played an Afternoon Penis show at the restaurant we worked at, but for the poster it had to be called Afternoon Pen 15, ha ha
  1:32am
J:

*I think Ben got weird and Hollywood or something. I haven't talked to that guy in years.
  1:35am
J:

RE: Dead. Gotta say, as much as I don't like Mayer, I'm getting sorta tempted to try for a miracle for the Dodgers Stadium show. The Bowl was fun last year, despite having bad versions of Jerry tunes stuck in my head for months...
Avatar 1:37am
Jeff Conklin:

@J: I'm going to a show or two. Thankfully I don't remember any of the bad stuff afterwards...
Avatar 1:37am
Adamsworth:

yeah, he was like creative director for like the Fox channel (not News though) animation department or something like 5 years ago or maybe even longer...
  1:44am
J:

@Jeff Nice. Very tempting. I actually sorta enjoy Mayer's "pro chops" playing in a strange way now, but his voice kills me. But yeah, I have a bad tendency to get these ear worms with shit like that. Drives me crazy.
  1:46am
J:

@Adamsworth I think Ben has like 6 cancelled TV shows under his belt at this point. His work has gotten so bad too. He should've just stuck to the art world. Total milquetoast now. And he can't keep a show past one season to save his life. Had a buddy that worked with him at Cartoon Network and said his ego was crazy out of control. Hearsay, but I believe it, judging from my last experience with him.
  1:47am
J:

Anyway, whatever. Sorry for the tangent hahahaha
  1:51am
Mike tp:

like what I'm hearing right now...
Avatar 2:03am

Oooh, I didn't know about the new Joan Shelley, I gotta grip that...
Avatar 2:06am
Adamsworth:

Damn, Michael Chapman...I hope I get to see him play live one day...
  2:10am
mawuet:

Many things to comment on here: Quite the Wharf Rat...never heard Jerry hold one note for so long! Also, every tune on that Shelley is gold. And is it so that the Chapman has not been reissued? Did not know of this one.
Avatar 2:12am
Jeff Conklin:

I don't believe the Chapman has been reissued: www.discogs.com...
  2:20am
Mark R.:

Nice "Rhapsody in Blue" there, Rick...
  2:21am
mawuet:

Yeah, saw that entry but was hoping it appeared in some other form. Seems odd considering how much of the rest of his catalog has been through multiple lives. Anyway, thanks for playing it!
  2:27am
Eiderdown:

I’m fading in and out to Jon Collin. What a way to fall asleep. Goodnight?
  2:30am

This Collin piece is definitely hitting a sweet spot between sleep and waking—morning where I'm at and it's working beautifully.
