This is where all of culture and all of time are collapsed into one seductive portal and viewed through the panoramic lens of the exotic. Come and embark on an armchair-travel virtual-voyage to the heart of timeless darkness and beyond; embrace the numinous monolith of the exotic immensity. Let us find that place where hybridization meets its destiny as pure fantasy. Let us become observers observing those others who are ourselves. You wear your mask and I'll wear mine.

I found this Kraftwerk album w/o a cover, but in a sleeve, in the charity shop my mother runs for her county as a volunteer. It was odd, as they usually only have clothes and food, but when I was 21, I dug around and found it, and knew I hit the jackpot! (I didn't even knew this album existed at the time). (In HS I was really into weird polyester 70s fashion that it would get from all the donation from the dying old people).

(and I would dig every time I was home from college). sadly, outside a Bach cd, the only cool music I found.

Hello Uncle!
Avatar 9:03pm
Flash Strap:

how goes it in your neck of the woods UM
Avatar 9:03pm
still b/p:

Good evening.
I would've liked that Banfi back in '78 if I'd heard it. And the Ose is OK. If I tried to articulate why others of the period...like Tomita..never brought the ol' satisfaction for me, I'd sound snotty and unkind. Not informed, mind you, just snotty and unkind.
Avatar 9:06pm
Flash Strap:

hi b/p

Tomita has perhaps, at times, a kitsch factor which brings him a bit too close to novelty music, but I'll stand by the best of his works and I think he's wonderful
Avatar 9:07pm

Good soundtrack for my glyph script research, of the yet to be undecipehered: Rongorongo of Rapa Nui: www.cabinetmagazine.org...

It's a nice evening. I have my ears on you, one eye on the orioles and hummingbirds feeding, and one eye on the Rangers game, awaiting word on a trade that's probably going down right now.

Besombes - Rizet may have the best French "krautrock" album, imo
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:11pm

I wonder if anyone has ever used the name or title "Krautwerk."
Avatar 9:11pm
Flash Strap:

sounds like a good one, UM. have about ten or 12 hummingbirds fighting over our feeders right now, absolute insanity. its a dogfight out there
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:13pm
Uncle Michael:

I only see one or two at a time. We have nesters here. No idea how many. They prefer the oriole feeder to the hummingbird feeder. We have a freaking mob of orioles.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:13pm
coelacanth∅:

hey Evan and Explorers
Avatar 9:14pm
Flash Strap:

hey Coelacanth!
Avatar 9:15pm
northguineahills:

From what I can read, most of the surviving Rongorongo glyphs deal w/ human and agriculture fertility, and catching sea life, and their gods, But exactly what, who knows?
Avatar 9:15pm
Flash Strap:

@UM: last year for the first time we started seeing more than 2 or 3, as many as 7. this year it's absurd how many are mobbing the feeders. we have 3 feeders now to keep up
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:17pm
Uncle Michael:

When more than one humingbird shows up at the same time, they'd rather act territorial than feed.
Avatar 9:19pm

@NGH: visually, it's a beautiful language as well. Easter Island's history is so weird and mysterious
Avatar 9:28pm

Saw this today, about a hummingbird encountered in a greenhouse: "...thrusting his sharp self into the flowers with electrical rapidity (I hate the metaphor, but it gives something of the instantaneousness and the jeweled violence)..."

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:36pm
coelacanth∅:

sbp that validates my concern when a hummingbird is hovering directly in front of my face, making sudden advancements of a few inches to over a foot, toward me... which has happened more than once. (in locations 75 miles away from each other) i always move slightly when they get within 2 feet, not knowing how quickly they can thrust their sharp selves into my eye or something.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 9:38pm

they like sweet smells
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:38pm

I haven't seen a hummingbird in several years, poor habitat I guess. I did have one land on my shirt pocket 20+ years ago, always hope for another encounter. My glasses would protect me from eye damage.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:46pm

@b/p I haven't seen any feeders, I have a regular feeder I've been meaning to put up for years. Other birds stopped showing up too when a new neighbor moved in and cut down a lot of plantings on the other side of my fence. The pocket landing happened as I was about to enter a shopping mall and a poor disoriented bird flew out, I think it needed to get its bearings. At first it was icky because I thought it was a giant bug, then I realized what it was.

Avatar 9:51pm

Love the soft light-saber sounds of flight when one shows up. A former boss had an intact one he claimed to have found in the freezer in the company's garage. Said it must have flown in when he stepped away with freezer door open, geting trapped when he closed it. Never sure about that story.

and i don't think i've ever seen a glossy ibis either. several species of owls and hawks, occasional eagles, egrets, swans, herons...maybe i'm not looking around enough. it seems like some years i see tons of different birds, other years i don't.
