When I was a little kid, my brother and I would play our parent's old 78s with a 7" 45rpm record laid over the top so that when the needle reached the edge of the 45, it would endlessly loop.
  12:22pm
Jaz-Paz:

@Olivia: wish FMU were live streaming the booth now. Having a hard time imagining how you're managing to keep the tone arms from flying off the records. You're an audio wizard, Olivia.
Avatar 12:23pm

My Vestax PDX-2000s go from 16.5 to 78 rpms w/ two continuous speed shifts, and can play backwards (I need to dj again).

I wish Wham-O had produced some novelty flying disks that had record grooves on top.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:28pm
Rich in Washington:

I need at least one turntable that can go backwards. That would be swell. Also, one that had those old speed ranges. I occasionally find records at 16. And those drugstore type recordo-discs (etc) are usually 78. I can rip and speed shift, but I'd rather be able to just listen to them.

Assuming this show is much more difficult to do than making ravioli. With the 45's and all.

thats why i think its really nice to have a real single one song on one side with no label, and then the other side just a big sticker with a hole in it.

Extra points if Olivia stole some of Fabio’s 45s and cut those in half.

Happy that this wonderful program could be the soundtrack for my walk and coffee stop on the way to the opening day of the Vermont International Film Festival. Viva la Arts!
Continuing to listen while i ignore other humans in the same room and wait for the first screening to start.

Olivia should change her name to CRISPR because she's mastered the art of splicing.

This is reminding me of early John Oswald tapes
Avatar 2:35pm
northguineahills:

If you want the Yasonao Tone effect for a wounded cd, use a needle to perforate scotch tape w/ many hole, and put on the underside of a cd. Also, Markus Popp used to use Glidden paint for his glitches on CDs. (Difficulty: both require either 90s era cd players or all the functions that disallows playback of damaged CDs w/o a perfect reading disabled.
Avatar 2:36pm
Rev. Turnip Druid:

that "totally irregular rhythm" snip sounds familiar... must have used it before.. that "auscultation of the heart" medical LP? They must have pressed a billion copies of that, I still see it in thrift-stores ..
Avatar 2:36pm
northguineahills:

For damaged cassettes, I'd let them sit in salt water to oxidize, put them in the microwave, and use strong magnets.
Avatar 2:40pm
northguineahills:

For belt driven turntables, you can muss up the belts in many ways to vary the speed.
Avatar 2:41pm
Rev. Turnip Druid:

OR, as I discovered to my shock & horror, move to southern Arizona for a few years. With the super-low humidity, the belt will desiccate and literally fall apart. Before it completely gives up, it will behave, we can say, oddly.
Avatar 2:42pm
Rev. Turnip Druid:

10 years in Tucson, I went through 3 turntable belts. Brave soldiers, all.
Avatar 2:45pm
northguineahills:

I used to cut notches in my trnrble belts, drive in screws to make the loop longer, and use rubber bands.
