The Hollies. That was a band. I recall one wintery North Dakota night. Pembina, I think it was. A high school prom. At that time, I was doing a brief stint with the Pozo Seco Singers, that is, until Don Williams got too big for his britches and left us. Anyway, we were doing a few dates with the Hollies on a swing through the northern states, and they were amiable enough fellows. Not exactly at the height of their fame, in fact, they were at a bit of a low career point, I would have to say, and were a little dispirited, to say the least. They had gone from headlining the larger sheds of the day to, well, playing proms in North Dakota. We, on the other hand, were used to a lower level of fame, and were content to forego our own original compositions to play Color My World, or whatever the kids and the chaperones wanted to hear. --- At one point, I was smoking a cigarette on the playground with Graham Nash. His might not have been a traditional cigarette, come to think of it, and his thoughts and actions were a little bit "out there" to say the least. All of the sudden he started wailing on a tetherball, striking it as it went round and round its mooring pole, its little rope getting shorter and shorter as it made its diminishing orbits. It was a bit of a metaphor, in hindsight, for a man at the proverbial "end of his rope." He was cursing under his breath as he struck the ball, with each slap of cold rubber, he would say the name of one of his band members, not with disdain, neccesarily, but with the deep fatigue and desperateness of a man who had had quite enough. He was over being a Hollie. He mentioned to me that he had been dallying with the idea of joining up with Stills, and Nash, and that he was quite taken with a young woman named Joni, but that he was contractually bound to the Hollies through 1971. At this point, he physically used his boot to kick and bend the tetherball pole, and I had to beg him to stop. "Stop bending that pole," I said. To which he replied, "sod off," as he walked away, and that was the last exchange we ever had. I read in a Crawdaddy magazine not long after that he had split The Hollies and had taken up with the afformentioned Stills and Nash. In actuality, I did a few gigs with The Hollies, trying to substitute Nash' high soaring vocal notes with matching trombone parts, but, it just wasn't working and the band grew to resent me. That's how it is for a 'bone player. They need you, but they hate you. It goes with the territory. Great show Todd.

This is freeform radio, it's appropriate to give your opinions from time to time. If you don't like what you are listening to, you are completely free to listen to something else. It's important for people to stand up for what is right at this point in history, especially when they have a platform like this. We have to stand up and be counted on the side of right. Very proud of you, Todd, thank you again for your words.
