@12:07. There's a whole book about that sort of thing called How To Poo At Work. Its preface concerns someone who had an unfortunate gastrointestinal episode during a large management meeting and was stigmatized by it for their entire career, seemingly.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:03pm

but it's a lot of reissued regular rock, indie records, lots of new metal. Some OK used stuff from time to time. Nice folks, clean store - refreshingly free of the flakaziods that are usually drawn to downtown stores.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:03pm
Rich in Washington:

yeah, lots of Sonic Recollections' former inventory in there.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 1:05pm
Granny Spicy Tuna (they/them):

Kelso in the 80's moment: me walking along the side of the road in a trenchcoat i tried to dye purple with RIT for the premiere of "Purple Rain" at the Triangle Cinema. Some dudes in a huge red truck roar by, throw a beer bottle at me and yell, "Hey, DEVO!" Memories…
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:05pm
Rich in Washington:

THey're very vanilla. Honestly, I would stop by often and probably spend money, but they have this peculiar thing where records go immediately into general population, so there's no 'new arrival' section. A person would have to flip through the entire store to find any of their incoming used records. Weird. I said something about it, as nice as I can (I know. Assholes and opinions) and they stated that they like it that way.
Avatar 1:06pm
DDDJJJ666:

That is annoying.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:06pm
Rich in Washington:

The main thing that I go in for is inner sleeves and poly bags.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:08pm
Rich in Washington:

They do put awesome records on their 'wall-of-you-can't-afford it' from time to time though. I've bought a few there.
Avatar 1:08pm
DDDJJJ666:

There is a certain level of insanity that goes along with record store ownership. There used to be a place in Corvalis that would seal all its used records. And they were dicks.
Avatar 1:08pm
DDDJJJ666:

Granny, I salute your purple badge of courage. You ARE DEVO.
Avatar 1:09pm
HollyRT:

@grannyspicytuna In 1985, age 16, I had what I can only describe as a "goth milkmaid" outfit I ordered from the Bogey's catalog (or possibly Trash and Vaudeville) and wore to school.
In suburban Central Florida.
Good times.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:10pm
Rich in Washington:

Yeah. They're pretty adamant about their no-new-bin policy. I said something again and the owner snorted sometime like "Yeah! I'm gonna put that $1 Herb Alpert record in a new arrival bin!", which is funny, considering that they refreshingly don't stock any of those ubiquitous thrift store garbage records.
Avatar 1:10pm
DDDJJJ666:

I like when Marc Almond records end up in the Mark-Almond bin.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:11pm
Rich in Washington:

Granny! Must've been the same assholes from where I went to school at: "HEY, DEVO! GET A CAR, FAGGOT!"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:11pm
JtotheK:

there's an area shop without a 'new arrival bin' because then that was the only stock people looked at. compared to different area shop with a new bin which gets looked at and the rest of the shop is ... often overlooked.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 1:12pm
Granny Spicy Tuna (they/them):

DDDJJJ666: thanks!
Rich in Washington: thise creeps in that huge red truck really got around!
HollyRT: Florida goths are the best! (I seem to know quite a few)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:12pm
Rich in Washington:

My fave stores, I probably burn through my entire record 'budget' just through their new arrival bins. It's rare that I flip through an entire store these days. Especially in Portland. I am really flake and B.O. intolerant these days.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:13pm
JtotheK:

and the aforementioned shop without the new arrivals bin does have a few 'featured records' areas which always has cool (and most of time - affordable!) records on display.

Doesn't mean I'll necessarily shop there.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:19pm
JtotheK:

yeah as a customer i definitely appreciate the 'new arrivals' bin, and area shop that is within distance to get to on occasional lunch break does have one. the other shops that are a bit longer drive, now that i think about it - most do not have 'new arrivals'.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:19pm

This is kind of an atypical Thomas Dolby track, isn't it? You're playing all these rain tracks when we're having a brief respite from the torrential rains of this morning and more thunderstorms expected this afternoon (I realize you're in Portland, where you could conceivably to a rain-themed show 365 days a year),

I find their music to be orienting. Like, "NOW I'm in Ohio!"

Gosh, I used to love Heaven 17 and that whole BEF collective thing. Hopefully I still have that BEF box set somewhere.

Ohio is a dying state, that is why it has a bad rep. It is almost all industry based. Drive through the state and it's plain as day that it is a dying state. Many exits have become ghost towns.... you see abandoned factories everywhere, trailer parks, etc. Ugly, bland, drab...at least in my opinion.

Kent was my brand when I smoked!

On the BEF Box Set there seems to be a mastering error, causing track 3-8 to start abruptly, over halfway through. This track is usually over 7min long.

I want to be composted near the big G in Garibaldi OR.

Garibaldi's first school (Hobson School) was built in 1896. In 1907 the school was moved close to where it now stands between Cypress and Driftwood under the big "G"

Kent is an American brand of cigarettes, currently owned and manufactured by R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company in the United States and British American Tobacco elsewhere.[1] The brand is named after Herbert Kent, a former executive at Lorillard Tobacco Company.

I think Van Morrison would be surprised to hear that he was buried in France, or any other place for that matter....even though he might feel that way.
