Charles Mingus said jazz was a word invented to separate musicians from their money. Music for a Free World brings us together, drawing listeners to the healing power of smooth free jazz. Each week, surprise guests bring their own sides to spin and their instruments of choice to spontaneously jam.

Ornette (this, and Lonely Woman, were the 1st recordings of his I ever heard, always loved them!)

@Dave: With $75 being the pledge level for a DJ premium, someone should have them on their show next marathon. That's what a 75 Dollar Bill gets you
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:41pm
Ken From Hyde Park:

I saw 75 Dollar Bill at Monty Hall one time. I believe they were opening for Group Doueh that night.

@Sem: I think Nickel Boys is worth your time. It's a short book, tight writing. Not my fave of his though
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:53pm
Dave Sewelson:

Thanks for stopping by Ken....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:53pm
Ken From Hyde Park:

@fred - I'll have to check my notes when I get back home. It may have been them opening for Secret Chiefs 3. Good shows all around, anyway.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:54pm
Sem:

Thx @fred. Made note of it, and determined not to read any reviews ahead of time.

@Sem: Make your own judgment. I'd like to hear about your take about it
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 3:13pm
fred:

@Sem: also, I'm halfway through Malcolm Lowry's Hear Us Lord... and not sure whether I like it. Long sentences, but striking vision at times. Very much worth it so far, but often close to boring

Franco Twinkie:

Rick, I "Became" a drummer when an ad-hoc group needed a percussionist at a party. Some metal barrels were procured, and viola! I was a drummer. Some time later, I found a full set of drums at a thrift store and started showing up at their practice space. We played our first show out at a roadhouse that was shaped like a range of mountains, inside of which was painted with bright orange automotive enamel. Our second gig was in an old orchard house that was formerly occupied by a notorious motorcycle gang. The party was raided by the police while we were thrashing it out in the living room. They came in the back door and we ran out the front door. When we came back an angry crowd was throwing bottles at the house and pieces of my drums were bouncing down the front stairs, other parts were destroyed beyond recognition. That was the end of my career as a drummer!

Franco, that sounds like a great start to a career!!
