This is where all of culture and all of time are collapsed into one seductive portal and viewed through the panoramic lens of the exotic. Come and embark on an armchair-travel virtual-voyage to the heart of timeless darkness and beyond; embrace the numinous monolith of the exotic immensity. Let us find that place where hybridization meets its destiny as pure fantasy. Let us become observers observing those others who are ourselves. You wear your mask and I'll wear mine.

I've been wanting to do a spotlight on F&T for years now, very happy to be finally on the case
Avatar 7:07pm

This album was such a crucial discovery, if only there were even more from their early days at Juilliard
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 7:08pm

Sounds GOOD!
Franco is majorly bummed that he canøt listen live today.
Avatar 7:10pm
Flash Strap:

consider me bummed too! you're missed Franco
Avatar 7:10pm
hyde:

this is lovely
Avatar 7:12pm
Flash Strap:

I agree Hyde, one of their loveliest compositions. They recorded it again as "mermaid's waltz", which we'll hear shortly
Avatar 7:13pm
Flash Strap:

probably my #1 Boneschi track, here, I think I've already played it twice
Avatar 7:16pm
hyde:

@Flash also, manatees. those are amazing creatures, and it's a wonder they didn't get wiped out like Steller's sea cow. they were serious explorer food.
Avatar 7:16pm
Flash Strap:

this is a uniquely weird album
Avatar 7:17pm
Flash Strap:

Manatees are such miraculous creatures, I'm so glad they still exist, bless them
Avatar 7:20pm
Flash Strap:

Even in the bizarro world of library music, this is an extremely unusual sound to dedicate an album to. I cherish this

I'm confused, I was listening to the stream and suddenly this guy talking and he says he is featuring Ferrante & Teicher which I long have ridiculed. What, I've been hearing them for the last 20 minutes. wtf. Taking a shower and contemplating WTF I'm hearing.

I love the sound of sound proof, F&T are theatrical.
Avatar 7:40pm
Flash Strap:

Hi WR! I hope it all works out for you
Avatar 7:40pm
Flash Strap:

Hello, beloved Doctor!
Avatar 7:44pm
Flash Strap:

This really is one of their best LPs I think, very underappreciated
Avatar 7:46pm
Flash Strap:

they get the coolest sounds, all without any electronic processing
Avatar 7:48pm
Flash Strap:

@chresti: they really are, it's an extremely flashy art they practice
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 7:48pm
chresti:

First I remember hearing this album Hi+Fireworks. They really attack Tabu with gusto
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 7:48pm
WR:

Point is that my perspective on F&T is based on my working in record store 71 to 75 and they were AOR opportunists covering whatever was top of of AOR charts. I'm ok with revisionist re-evaluation of their work. Just takes me a bit to reconsider.
  7:49pm
JtotheK:

Quick checking in - hi Flash and explorers, enjoying the show!
Avatar 7:49pm
Flash Strap:

one of my all-time fave Tabus
Avatar 7:51pm
Flash Strap:

@WR: they really did descend into such pure product no one can blame you! I benefit from not really living during that heyday of schmaltz. their early records were successful but not nearly so as the later work, which overshadows everything. similar to the Bee Gees' curse
Avatar 7:53pm
Flash Strap:

Hi J-K! thanks for checking in & wonderful to have your ears with us
Avatar 7:55pm
Flash Strap:

Always worth highlighting their original compositions – this one reappears (along with their arrangement of Tabu) on their one true Exotica LP, Pianos in Paradise (also by far their best LP with orchestra). To be covered in the next edition
Avatar 7:55pm
Flash Strap:

up next, a very good take on Baia
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 7:56pm
chresti:

Denizens of the Deep, had a good sound, I listen to the SP that is without an orchestra
Avatar 7:57pm
Flash Strap:

following that, reprises of "Loch Ness Monster Stomp" and "Floating Manatees" (under new names)
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 7:58pm
chresti:

Bee Gees' curse haha
Avatar 7:58pm
Flash Strap:

@chresti: they wouldn't begin to incorporate orchestra until quite some time after Soundproof – the 2 Soundproofs are really 2 different albums, the other one is alternately known as Soundblast
Avatar 8:01pm
Flash Strap:

what a beast this one is

Avatar 8:02pm

really unusual sounds here
Avatar 8:02pm

Hello Passiflora!
Avatar 8:05pm

what we're hearing is actually the OTHER Soundproof, which was very confusingly how Westminster chose to release a stereo version of Soundblast (the original Soundproof was mono only)
