To answer your previous question, Linda - I'm a girl and I like prog :-) That sounds like I'm at an AA meeting. lol
Avatar 6:02pm
Don-O:

Good Hello to everyone. X-mas shopping and a Mexican lunch ALMOST made me late!

hello Don-O and crapsters
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:03pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

Girls is COOL!
  6:04pm
Martinibomb:

are there any lady prog groups?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:04pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

This show is like the anti-prog ;-)
Avatar 6:04pm
Mr Fab:

i know what the expression "eat your heart out" means, but its' such a weird expression . Where did it come from?
Avatar 6:04pm
Don-O:

Only the recorded sound is crap.
Avatar 6:05pm
geezerette:

Damn! So good!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:05pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

@MB - I had a really long think when I was putting the show together and I couldn't think of any off the top of my head ...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:05pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

My daughter just said that she only knew The Divinyls version of that and liked the original you played! :-)
Avatar 6:06pm
Linda Lee:

MB, I'm only remembering female vocals, like Inge Rumpf with Frumpy.
Avatar 6:06pm
geezerette:

Mr. Fab, uh, ancient Mayan?...
  6:06pm
Martinibomb:

@GG I hadn't really thought about that genre from that aspect. I am surprised I can't think of any either
  6:06pm
Martinibomb:

But there must be?! Have to do some research now...
Avatar 6:06pm
Linda Lee:

boysie, I say! :-D
Avatar 6:07pm
Linda Lee:

I'm really loving this one, Don O! beautiful stuff.
Avatar 6:07pm
geezerette:

ha ha!
  6:07pm
Dean:

There's Renaissance, whose lead vocalist was female.
Avatar 6:08pm
Linda Lee:

so there's 2 ..
  6:08pm
Martinibomb:

@Don-O my friend's all-girl band does a cover of this Melvin track.. it's awesome
Avatar 6:08pm
Mr Fab:

geezerette: Ha!

My big sis bought records by ELP, Yes, Alice Cooper, Sabbath, Zep and Peter Gabriel, and she was a totally hetero girly girl. Maybe we should ask her.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:08pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

I'd put Rennaissance more into folk tho ... it's a tough one.
Avatar 6:09pm
Mr Fab:

i think the Pandora also covered "Melvin."
Avatar 6:09pm
Linda Lee:

do you know Frumpy, GG? German prog. amazing vocalist.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:10pm
Fodder in the Garage:

...and Annie Haslam (Rennaissance) solo too!
Avatar 6:10pm
geezerette:

This is so funny...and great.
And yeah, there's Patti & Debbie.
Avatar 6:10pm
Linda Lee:

they should have been colossal. that name, though..
  6:10pm
Martinibomb:

Here's the Mean Reds doing "Melvin" at roadhouse in my hood.. youtu.be...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:10pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

Curved Air? Sonja Kristina? Maybe ...
Avatar 6:10pm
Linda Lee:

right!
  6:10pm
Dean:

The early incarnation was the Keith Relf band. When Annie Haslam joined, they definitely moved toward a prog sound. Still, not exactly a "girl group," I know.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:11pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

Frumpy IS a great name :-)
Avatar 6:11pm
geezerette:

Oh yeah, The Pandoras!
Avatar 6:11pm
Linda Lee:

can't seem to come up with any female musicians!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:12pm
Fodder in the Garage:

MB - One album sticks out for female prog. Check out June Wallack, S/T album from Quebec in 1976.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:12pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

I'm listening but will go silent for a bit - need some dinner :-)
Avatar 6:13pm
Linda Lee:

there might be something fruitful down the European prog road, for female prog musicians.
  6:13pm
Dean:

This question comes up in the progarchives forums. Ars Nova, Mother Superior, handful of others: http://www.progarchives.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=111974

Avatar 6:15pm
geezerette:

Thanks,Dean. Always good info!
Avatar 6:15pm
Linda Lee:

are you catching these names, GG?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:16pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

Back in a bit to check everything - need to eat :-)
  6:16pm
Martinibomb:

@Dean oh wow! Thanks almost missed your post goooood info
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:17pm
Fodder in the Garage:

Yep, that's the June Wallack album. She only released that one LP. I love it.

Another artist that comes to mind, is the incredible Laurence Vanay (who also released an album Galaxies, aka Jacqueline Thibault). She was married to Laurent from Magma, but she is a pitch-perfect goddess of Prog (and other stylings).
Avatar 6:18pm
Linda Lee:

why we love our Sheena pals. fonts of knowledge! :-D
Avatar 6:19pm
geezerette:

Yep!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:19pm
Fodder in the Garage:

A fav prog album by Jacqueline/Laurence... is under the name "Gate Way" - Evening Colours.
Avatar 6:19pm
Mr Fab:

shame on me for not having any of these Girls In The Garage comps, tho I do have a number of individual tracks. For the sake of the Sheena stream, I must correct this oversight.
Avatar 6:19pm
Linda Lee:

the thing about girls in the garage .. they were often there by default, weren't they?
Avatar 6:19pm
Don-O:

Hey, Rich I just got up about 4 minutes before showtime, so I know that frenzy of today. NEVER tale a nap after a big mexican food lunch!
Avatar 6:19pm
Linda Lee:

definitely think you should, Mr F!
Avatar 6:19pm
geezerette:

...even about actual fonts!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:20pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

Because I had some technical issues I didn't get a chance to eat before the show so I'm feeling a little unusual. Back from the kitchen in a little while. Excellent music tho while I cook :-)
Avatar 6:20pm
Linda Lee:

haha! yes. fonts.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:20pm
Fodder in the Garage:

Fab - Ended up picking up 2 clamshell boxsets on CD of all volumes -
Past & Present released them just recently with booklets. They also are the ones who reissued all the vinyl.
Avatar 6:22pm
Linda Lee:

this is your sexiest show ever, Don O.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:22pm
Fodder in the Garage:

I'll just put a little shout here too... Girls In The Garage - Groovy Gallic Gals! - Volume 10 ... was compiled by Mimi la Twisteuse, who has been on my show twice + was my first wife. Go girl go!
Avatar 6:22pm
geezerette:

:D Otis, great picks!!!
Avatar 6:23pm
Linda Lee:

wow! :-)
Avatar 6:24pm
Linda Lee:

let's hope this isn't some of that 50 dollar collector's vinyl. if this is the case I might become ill.
Avatar 6:24pm
Mr Fab:

Whoah, good to know, Otis!

Funny how girl group names went from names like The Models, The Belles, and (love this one) The Continental Co-Eds to the likes of The Slits, Snatch, Hole. I guess either way they're saying: No boys allowed! Wrong plumbing!
  6:24pm
Martinibomb:

@Otis I think this series has had an effect on the younger generation especially girls. I have seen it referenced many times in the portland music scene.
Avatar 6:25pm
Linda Lee:

how to rob an insult's power: own it.
Avatar 6:26pm
Don-O:

Anybody got the GITG mini-disc, the inbetween sub-chapters between the chapters? THOSE are hard to find.
Avatar 6:26pm
Linda Lee:

the link is Fanny, Mr F!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:26pm
Fodder in the Garage:

Legendary rockin' series. Right up there with Las Vegas Grind imho.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:27pm

Don - I have 6 1/2... still want to find 5 1/2 one day.
Avatar 6:27pm

Feminism arises, so we have tougher ID. just naturally.
Avatar 6:27pm

Linda, you rockin'? :)

Yeah, cutting to the chase is just minimalism.
Avatar 6:28pm

I'm just thrilled to pieces, geezerette! such pretty stuff.

I was meant to do some *really crucial* housework tonight & I just couldn't. had to listen & gab!
Avatar 6:31pm
Don-O:

Otis: I got 5.5 and 6.5!
Avatar 6:31pm
Linda Lee:

really better do something about this house now.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:31pm
Fodder in the Garage:

Same here, finishing work is going very slow... progressive to garage, getting sidetracked here.
Avatar 6:32pm
Linda Lee:

I feel better with company, Otis.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:33pm
Fodder in the Garage:

Don't we all. Awwww, yay.
Avatar 6:33pm
Linda Lee:

runner up for unfortunate band name here.. right behind Frumpy.
Avatar 6:34pm
Linda Lee:

that sounded like a nice shopping trip, though!
Avatar 6:35pm
Linda Lee:

I just don't see how this housework gets done unless someone shows up with a bag of coke in the next 15 minutes.
Avatar 6:36pm
Mr Fab:

"Progressive" bands wrote really long songs. The Residents did an album of one-minute long songs. Did that make them "Regressive" rock?
Avatar 6:36pm
Linda Lee:

hahaha!! regressive rock!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:36pm

Devo!
