DJ GeorgyGirl:

I like to think that Neil was met by Viv shouting "DARLING!!!" :-)
Avatar 6:05pm
Linda Lee:

absolutely! quite lovely reunions happen just beyond the veil, apparently.
Avatar 6:07pm
Don-O:

This section is more or less Greatest "Hits" of Neil rammed into 25 or so minutes.....more or less.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:07pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

Sad tho the circumstances are, the music of the Bonzos is glorious and I'm happy to hear it all <3

Thanks for tackling this Don. Making me all misty eyed

Hi everyone! Rutland Weekend television is so underrated and rare it is difficult to understand
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:13pm
Rich in Washington:

So true huomenta! I only relatively recently got into Rutland Weekend. They're brilliant.
Avatar 6:14pm
Linda Lee:

i've never heard this before in my life. Sheena scores again! :-D

I fondly recall seeing the Rutles doc when it aired during SNL's timeslot one summer. It was lifechanging for me. So goddamn funny.
Avatar 6:16pm
Linda Lee:

absolutely brilliant.

DJ GeorgyGirl:

Python, the Bonzos, RWT ... my square peg in a round hole teenage self salutes you all. You got me through some very tough days all of you. <3
Avatar 6:17pm
Linda Lee:

this one sounds disturbingly like Billy Joel!
  6:18pm
Martinibomb:

@GG you said it!!! Spot on
Avatar 6:18pm
Linda Lee:

this still makes me laugh like a goose.
Avatar 6:19pm
huomenta:

They broadcast The Rutles:All You Need Is Cash around 1993 in Finnish tv, of course I videotaped it and watched it over and over and over again... actually I have not heard Neil Innes' solos that much though I bought Taking Off on vinyl last summer.
Avatar 6:22pm
Don-O:

BTW, I got Neil surprise next week!
Avatar 6:22pm
huomenta:

though in my case it was the early 90s, yes Python/Rutles got me through tough teenage times as well,Georgy Girl you did say it rather beautifully
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:22pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

My favourite Python/Bonzo/Beatle moment ever is George and Eric and Neil doing the Pirate Song ;-)
Avatar 6:28pm
Don-O:

That was a bit of a tear-jerker......
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:29pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

Yep. Beautiful but I'm a little tearful.
Avatar 6:29pm
huomenta:

I unfortunately am one of the dumb people who places too much importance on certain type of coincidences, but it still felt a bit eerie how I was drunkenly asking a dear friend of mine again and again how come he has not seen The Rutles movie and then the next day, horribly hungover, I saw Neil Innes' death was all over the news.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:30pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

@huomenta - I'm with you on that
Avatar 6:30pm
Linda Lee:

oh, I think we know more than we think we know at any given time. these things happen a lot.
Avatar 6:31pm
Don-O:

Correction: I first saw him at the LA Python Fest for the Rutles Reunion and THEN the Hollywood gig some years later.
Avatar 6:33pm
Don-O:

BTW, John's friend panicked during the Reunion show as he didn't know if this was funny or take it seriously....and he gave up and just enjoyed himself.
Avatar 6:34pm
Mr Fab:

huomenta:: I was reading a recent Eric idle interview to my wife at night before going to bed - woke up to see the news of Innes' death.
Avatar 6:36pm
Mr Fab:

I was also at that Rutles reunion show. Funny how it turns out that Don-O and I attended so many of the same events.
Avatar 6:38pm
Don-O:

All this foreshadowing is giving me a headache.
Avatar 6:38pm
Linda Lee:

well, someone will just have to tell me about the coctails because looking for info online is just a waste of time. wonderful stuff.
Avatar 6:40pm
huomenta:

I could imagine Rutles reunion was infinitely better than a reunion by some unknows called The Beatles could ever have been, ha ha. Anyways, a little envious here. I really should get Archaeology, those two tracks were really good. Actually I have not given Neil Innes' Taking Off a spin yet, even if it is 8 months since I got it, lazy me.
Avatar 6:41pm
Don-O:

The Coctails is spelled without a "k" and they broke up almost 20 years ago. Just warning ya!
Avatar 6:42pm
Mr Fab:

The reason Rutland Weekend TV is relatively unknown is because idle hated it, and kept it from being distributed.
Avatar 6:42pm
Linda Lee:

that's how I looked it up ~ but I get nowhere. it's all drink recipes.
Avatar 6:42pm
Linda Lee:

and more drink recipes.
Avatar 6:43pm
Don-O:

Fab, Idle's RWT beef hadn't stopped me from getting the entire show in DVD-R......and then came YouTube.
Avatar 6:44pm
Linda Lee:

oho. I had to go to discogs and circle back to wiki. ok then. now I know more.
Avatar 6:45pm
Don-O:

The player is grunting (?) between blasts...
Avatar 6:48pm
Linda Lee:

.. grunting?
Avatar 6:49pm
Don-O:

I discovered and became a huge fan of these guys some years AFTER they broke up. Typical......
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:50pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

British? American?
Avatar 6:50pm
Mr Fab:

Think they were from chicago.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:50pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

Just found their Wiki :-) Never mind ;-)
Avatar 6:52pm
Mr Fab:

I have a comp of theirs called The Highball Years, I think? Def more song-oriented, like indie rock with some jazzy lounge elements, inc a Martin Denny cover. Guess they got more “out” later on.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:52pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

They had their own action figures?? That is so cool :-)
Avatar 6:53pm
Don-O:

The Coctails were from Kansas City and then moved to Chicago.
Avatar 6:53pm
huomenta:

Don-O, my mind might have been absent during your announcements, but I just looked up the playlist of your 1st show and there was a track by Neil Innes as well. And now you introduced me to The Coctails, so I must wonder why you name this show The Hour of Crap ;)
Avatar 6:54pm

thanks for a great show, Don-O!
